Sober 7 years today

Congratulations! I've been sober since New Year's 2013. I still crave a drink from time to time, but I refuse to give in.

After about 2 weeks of not drinking I usually stop craving them..but usually a female lures my back into it.

I'm just not a good person when I drink. (As opposed to the loveing caring guy ya'll know me to be.)
Red and the boys were immune from the wrath. But few else were.

If you have a problem you should put it behind you. The ones you love deserve better than that.

I kept a pic of Red and a note that said "what's more important " and I had someone to talk to. I didn't do a program but having someone to talk to seems to be key.

Very impressive. Been dry since Lent and staying on it so far. This was the first St. Paddy's since I was 17 i didn't wake up with someone shooting dice the size of coconuts in my skull the next morning.

Way to go, Slice. I pray you can maintain your sobriety and always overcome your cravings.

We put my oldest brother in the ground 5 years ago. His kidneys were shot, & his liver was diseased He died very slowly and painfully; basically drowning in his own fluids. Drs wouldn't perform a liver transplant.

Stay strong for all those that love you.

My first cousin and I agreed we'd quit drinking at the same time. He died the same way. It's sad but it's a reminder of what can happen.

Don't try to do it on your own. See a physician and have an actual plan. There are medications that can ease the symptoms. They won't make them completely go away but definitely make getting through it a little easier.

I've never been through it myself but I see my patients going through it all the time. I couldn't imagine trying to do that by yourself. Get some help.

Like the other posters wrote, get some kind of medical treatment or into a rehabilitation facility if possible to detox.

One of the painters who worked for me quit cold turkey and died. Sadly he didn't say anything to me before hand. I saw a dr when I decided to quit. Everyone who is quitting should.
