Sobering takeaways

Milton didn’t play great but he’s not the reason they lost the game. We had no run game and the defense looked bad.
The entire team played badly. I'm sure that was surprising to the masses. Milton, people shouldn't have been surprised there, but many are, the ones who told everyone they were village idiots for looking at past play and thinking he wasn't it. Milton "not playing great" is the rule, not the exception. It's unfortunate, the whole thing is unfortunate.

One on one matchups aren't being won by the WR's. Seems when that happens its the ground game (which I am fine with) or WR sideline screen city. Joe cannot scramble effectively, does not throw on the move well at all, and does not seem to have the field vision to tuck the ball and run for a few yards. Several times last night where the middle of the field was wide open and Milton could have sauntered a few yards for a first down.

Also..a large, hostile environment seems to be this teams Achilles heel. Luckily LSU stepped on their own ####s last year year right away so the crowd was taken out of the game almost immediately.

3 games into the season with one players only meeting in the books and another probably coming... I've learned what I already knew, Milton is a terrible QB. New thing I learned is that our coach is straight up stupid. I seriously can't believe heupel was dumb enough to keep on trotting Milton out there but he sure as **** did. Heupel surprised me with how dumb he is. Looking forward to the next coaching search.
Because Nico isn’t ready and doesn’t need to get hurt. It’s pretty easy to understand. You don’t risk your future for maybe a difference of one win at the end of the year

The biggest thing that haunted me last night reflecting was that I can remember at least THREE TIMES, a RB was fighting for extra yardage and most of the OL made their initial block and then stopped then when the RB wouldn’t go down and THEN had this reaction of “Ope, oh crap guess we should hurry up and push the pile!”

To me that reflects the mindset of the offensive line and that is NOT a talent issue. That’s a finishing plays issue. That’s mental, toughness, grit, competitiveness, pride, etc. if we don’t have THAT on our OL they should be ashamed and we are not going to do well as an offense. It looks like all their passion from the first game is already gone. I don’t get it. 😤

1. The entire defense is powder puff soft and cannot tackle worth a hoot.
2. The offensive line looks wet toilet paper weak.
3. The play calling has been questionable
4. Receiver play has been poor
5. Cade Mays needs to get healthy and stay
healthy.
6. The team is lacking leadership and energy.

Think they got to start pooling like 90% of the nil money and doing it out evenly to everyone on the 2 deep or something. Willing to bet that's the source of a lot of our problems.
Not on here to start any junk but I did expect Tennessee to win I’m just shocked. Speaking of the NIL money once Florida got its NIL program fixed the team is better for it

It’s pretty simple analysis in my opinion. Top to bottom the roster has no elite players. Probably no one even close to elite (ok, maybe Bru). The last two games are who we are this year. It’s not changing. 6-6.

Missing KP affected the communication on defense more than anyone expected. Man went into motion and the LB didn't follow him. Im tired of Hadden and McCullough. Receivers were better than last game, but the non PI calls were suspect. The DB was draped all over Thornton on the deep pass that he missed.

Not to mention the hand full of jersey no call

I’m no analyst of football. To me the defense secondary stands out as a shockingly awful compared to the other issues. No way I would put the o-line at the same level. Play calling I would put second.

1. The entire defense is powder puff soft and cannot tackle worth a hoot. But Banks is an aggressive DC and talent developer.
2. The offensive line looks wet toilet paper weak. We don't need a great OL due to the scheme we run.
3. The play calling has been questionable Heupel is a genius play caller. Unstoppable.
4. Receiver play has been poor We have the Squirrel, Bru and the athletic freak Thornton. One of the best units in the SEC if not the country.
5. Cade Mays needs to get healthy and stay See #2.
healthy.
6. The team is lacking leadership and energy. Who wouldn't want to play in such a fun system and in such a great culture?

O line was a mess. I actually believe Milton can and will improve from this game, but only if the play calling does. That int he threw hurt, but not as much as the constant false starts and lack of aggression on Dfense. That was a bad game plan from the DC. Also coach Hueple needs to stop treating the game like this is ncaa 14 or madden. Going for that 4th and 1 when very little has gone your way was not smart at all. Take the 3 points, make it 2 possession game and hope your defense settles in and get off the field. You always want to give yourself a chance. The refs were what they were but if the game plan was more aggressive from both groups, Vols probably would've rose above that. Very disappointing loss, but it's on to week 4 and my hope is they learn from this loss and become better because we know it doesn't get easier.

I evaluate coaches by how the team progresses or in Tenn case, regressed. They don't seem to be getting better by game 3. The Virginia game was closer than the score at the end and Austin Pee was no better. If your team is not getting better as the season goes on, you have some really bad players or bad coaching. I also look at how teams adjust during a game. When Tenn scored that early TD, Florida adjusted . When Florida scored their first TD, we didn't adjust until it was too late to come back. The play calling by Tn was way too predictable.

For me it’s just how they have looked, not just against Florida, but through the first three games. They look undisciplined, unfocused at times and make bad mistakes in critical moments. It’s just hard to watch as a fan and around here we all know, all too well unfortunately, what bad football looks like. It’s just one loss but man they don’t look very good. Here’s hoping they can get the season turned around.

Why is losing to the GATORs in the swamp a sobering moment................several talented GOOD UT Teams lost in the swamp.
Whats it been............2001 I think, since we have won in the swamp. An average team lose is NOT sobering, its reality.
