We see them all the time, articles on Facebook, etc. that seem to mean something, but they're complete fabricated garbage; inspirational messages that are claimed to be written by an author, and yet it wasn't.

You know, someone sees a dog sleeping on a headstone, so they take a pic, and put a sad story with it about how the grave is the dog's owner, and the dog has slept there every night for 6 years, and so on, and so forth.

What are some real doozies out there that get traction but are completely false? Do you say anything to the poster about them? Is it considered uncouth to call something out?

Friend of mine works in the DoD. And amongst the office there was a video going around supposedly of a sniper taking out Taliban fighters at long distance. He forwarded it to me and i googled it: in fact it was some dude in Texas shooting rock chucks.

What inspired this thread:

finlandteacher.png

I've seen it all over facebook. A quick google search yields this, and many articles like it: No, Teachers in Finland Are Not Paid Like Doctors | Cato @ Liberty

I had a bunch of my teacher friends post the same thing then did as you, googling it seeing what it actually means.

Maybe it shouldn't be teacher in the US po'd because their counterpart in socialist Finland get paid the same as lawyers but the lawyers in Finland that are getting paid the same at teachers

Here's a long one, and next to it a pic of Pitt and Jolie:

Brad Pitt about his wife:

My wife got sick. She was constantly nervous because of problems at work, personal life, her failures and children. She lost 30 pounds and weighted about 90 pounds. She got very skinny and was constantly crying. She was not a happy woman. She had suffered from continuing headaches, heart pain and jammed nerves in her back and ribs.

She did not sleep well, falling asleep only in the mornings and got tired very quickly during the day. Our relationship was on the verge of a break up. Her beauty was leaving her somewhere, she had bags under her eyes, she was poking her head, and stopped taking care of herself. She refused to shoot the films and rejected any role. I lost hope and thought that weÂ’ll get divorced soonÂ… But then I decided to act. After all IÂ’ve got the most beautiful woman on earth. She is the idol of more than half of men and women on earth, and I was the one allowed to fall asleep next to her and to hug her. I began to shower her with flowers, kisses and compliments. I surprised and pleased her every minute. I gave her a lot of gifts and lived just for her. I spoke in public only about her. I incorporated all themes in her direction. I praised her in front of her own and our mutual friends. You wonÂ’t believe it, but she blossomed. She became better. She gained weight, was no longer nervous and loved me even more than ever. I had no clue that she CAN love that much.

And then I realized one thing: the woman is the reflection of her man.

If you love her to the point of madness, she will become it.

Brad Pitt
Brangelina isn't married, and articles about this being false are all over google.

Salute, you seem to let social media get under your skin way to easily.

To your point though...

My mom told me about some diatribe that Bill Cosby alledgly wrote about being old and tired of being tolerant and stuff (mostly about Islam). She was all "I'm surprised Bill Cosby wrote this.." And read it to me. I said "Mom, there is no way Bill Cosby wrote that." So I googled it and sure enough it was from some crotchety old Rep House member on a semi-racist soapbox circa 2006ish. I even ran across a statement from BC denying writing it.

I then had to tell my mother not to believe everything she sees on FB.
