Haleigh must be a pretty good little athlete. She was on the rowing team and then walked on and made the softball team. Maybe she can find a place where she can get some playing time.

who cares what Bama Dave thinks ? :) hopefully the fans at the home games keep the Lady in the Lady Vols of Tennessee

Nike still makes the LV shirts so I am sure it will never go away - unless Bama Dave makes a fans dress code for all womens events except basketball

Im curious about the scholarship distribution among the players. There is a ridiculously low amount of money available to this sport.

Hope we see a little light blue in the stadium and on the field when the season starts.

I'm excited about the Power T and unity under one banner without unnecessary gender specific references. We can't continue to isolate and pinpoint individuals in such a manner. It will create great symbiosis once non-men's basketball joins us all under the same tent.

Too bad they're still going to have boobs and booties isn't it?

RE scholarships: The NCAA badly needs to reduce the scholarship limit for women's basketball--which I believe is 15--by at least 3 and give those schollies to soccer and softball, two sports with much bigger starting lineups, and thus bigger squads: 11 starters for soccer and 9 for softball and yet fewer scholarships. Makes NO sense. Even at 12 scholarships, you've given full scholarships to TWO full basketball lineups--and still have two more!

it wouldn't hurt at all to drop a couple of the basketball scholarships,I'm not sure how many scholarships are available for softball, but don't they need to add 3 or 4 players to softball at least ?

I don't follow soccer at all,so I have no idea about them

I'm fairly certain we all have booties, regardless of our gender or gender identity. That would seem a poor area to exercise any discriminatory sentiments that you seem to be insinuating, though my discussion has emphasized just the opposite. I guess we can all shake our booties under the Inclusionary Tent though.

The NCAA Limit for Softball scholarships is 12. It is not a head count sport, so those 12 scholarships can be divided amongst however many players as wanted.

it's not a head-count sport. There are no NCAA limits on the number of players you can have?

18 scholarship players and 12 scholarships would be 2/3 of a scholarship per player or .67 of a scholarship. So each player would have to pay one third of the cost. Something that may be helping is that new thing where players get that cost thing additional to their scholarship. I expect however that most of the players are not breaking, but getting a college education at 1/3 the cost is still a big value even if you have to do double duty to earn it.

Several players are on full scholarship, other partials. Some get none at all.

The new cost of attendance money is pro-rated to the percentage of scholarship a player receives. So, if a player is getting a 40% scholarship, she gets 40% of the cost of attendance.

As far as squad sizes, you can dress 22 players in softball for SEC games (an increase from 20 last year). Maximum squad size that can participate in practice (NCAA mandated) is 25. A team can dress up to 25 for non-conference games.
