This article might explain it.I know the links say it, but I have a serious problem believing that college softball is more profitable/has more viewership than college baseball.
What am I missing?
http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2016/08/26/2016-college-world-series-television-ratings-tumble/
Basic reasons given:
Big Soccer match forced baseball to switch to espn2.
Final game was played on a Wednesday mid afternoon instead of 8PM the day before (rain out). Resulted in a 73% ratings drop from previous year.
Baseball played one less game.
Also, Coastal Carolina is not a big baseball fan draw.
The softball article was by the Coaches Association. Comparing just the World Series was sort of cherry picking facts, and dubious in making a case for softball's popularity relative to all other sports in competing for TV broadcast time.
