Well dang...I hate that for her hopefully, she will heal soon....so now the question is we have to find someone to protect Gregg....cannot wait to see who does! Is it softball season yet?:rock:

I would love for Seggrein to fit the bill as the protector. Hope she has progressed from last year and can handle it but we will see. Lockman would be great but she has to hit to play much anywhere . JMHO:)

Vines out is a BIG loss. She brought speed and power to the plate. Consistent producer no matter the opponent. She wasn't one of these types who rack up the stats against weaker non conference teams, and then go 2-11 over the weekend in SEC play. Hope she gets a red shirt for this year leaving her two more seasons.

That is a huge loss. What about Batts she was a good hitter in many clutch situations last seasons. She doesn't have the power of Vines has a steady bat and excellent speed.

I think Batts can be some help and with Childs working with her the hits should come. She has excellent speed and very well may be in the outfield. JMHO

Batts is an unknown. She had 7 plate appearances against SEC competition last year, going 1-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts and a pair of walks.

The issue with Batts is when she comes up with first and second, or bases loaded. Those situations against SEC and other P5 schools can be tough to produce in if you struggle to get the ball out of the infield. I've not seen her hit with any power, but hopefully the coaching staff can change that.

One of the things I like to look at is the SEC only stats. Just about anyone on the roster can hit .300 or better against Charleston Southern, ETSU, TN State, etc. At the end of the season you've got the SEC tournament that usually factors into whether or not you can get a top 8 seed, and then have to beat another P5 school in regionals, and then super regionals is the best-of-the-best.

Here's last year's SEC only stats for the entire league for anyone interested:
2017 SEC Softball - Conference-Only Statistics

Looking forward to the season and how the pitching is. With Moss and Arnold coming back UT has as strong of a 1-2 punch in the conference as anyone other than maybe Florida. Sprang is the X factor.

Biggest concern I have is behind the plate - both defense and offense.

Siap but, I didn't know where else to put this information. In reading the sports section today in my local paper, I noticed under "transactions" that Missouri has fired softball coach Ehren Earleywine. This seems to just happen out of the blue. I don't remember too much about Missouri's softball team and/or coaches. I wonder how this will have an effect on their season....anybody know or have information that might share some insight about this? I'm just curious to know as this is being so close to the start of the women's college softball season.

I know that this is not a surprise to many in and around the Mizzou softball and athletic department. This started when he was very vocal and overly abusive to many on his team a few years back. Some of the better players transferred and i believe the best pitcher pitched for Oklahoma the last 2 years. If Mizzou had not had all the problems with the administration a few years back and the black walkouts he would have been gone then. They were putting out so many fires they let his burn a little longer. Athletes now days cannot take the heat because everyone always gets a trophy and loose their confidence so they are babied. This day and time with abuse of ladies is here to stay and should be it there is truly abuse. I think the Mizzou program will be about the same one way or the other this year.JMHO
