Hazelwood in not a P5 pitcher. 2nd base players are bad or lazy and cannot figure out which
My thought is give her the same time frame as we gave Hannon and Parsons and let the chips fall where they may!!
Does anyone know why Arnold left? DeerPark, if anyone knows, you know.
The fact she broke up with her long time boyfriend last year tooIt’s been talked about a lot on here, but the bottom line is there wasn’t one big reason. People, myself included, have mentioned various factors, and there’s a lot of truth to them.
It’s a combination of: her role last year, the distribution of the scholarship money allocated to pitchers, the way she was coached when she was struggling, the load she had to carry two years ago, the circumstances around the allergic reaction that kept her out two weeks last year, the number of pitchers signed for this year, and the fact that the people that she was close with on the team have all graduated or left.
No single one of those factors was THE reason. But when you have a whole list, sometimes you’ll just be happier with a fresh start. I watched some of both of her appearances from this weekend and she looked great. Wishing her all the best.
Certainly good hitters but It is yet to be determined if JWill can be a pretty good hitter as well. If she has the talent to play there being a backup catcher does not negate her importance to a sloppy 2nd base position. I have no problem with Parsons or Hannon other than the continued making of errors. I had already penciled in Parsons from last years results when she played there and I truly think she will end up there. Somebody had enough to make a change in the middle of the inning by the sub in the first place. I do not know anyone personally on the team this year so I call it like I see it or think it. I have been around the game as well as baseball all my long life so I am not a rookie but certainly not an expert like the Weeklys. JMHO as always! SSThe difference is, Parsons and Hannon have both proven to be accomplished hitters at this level already. I think Willingham has potential at this level, but the coaches right now seem locked on her spelling Shipman behind the plate as her primary role this year. If her bat comes around, then I’d be fine with her at second, but I think the strongest lineup is to have Parsons over there and take whatever lumps you have to. From what I recall from last year, she was really good at making the difficult plays and was less consistent with the routine ones. They can work with that, especially if she “wins” the job and is getting the most reps there.
I’ll just say it seems this team has some fight in them!!!! I won’t say anything negative because by golly I can only imagine how hard they work. If there are kinks to be ironed out, isn’t that what preseason is for? Go Lady Vols!!!! I’m a fan and always will be.That was a weird tournament as it played out. It made it feel like we did less than we actually achieved. If going in you were told we would win all games but Arizona with Ashley out who wouldn't have took that and run with it? Hitting was good with making adjustments a key. ASU pitcher tonight just mowed through us first time through but we got her the second time. Pitching by everyone had highs and lows but overall was good considering the extra base runners allowed. Infield defense and base running obviously need work. Nothing that cannot improve. Overall a good to great start to the season for a team with this much youth.
Yep it is and should have been, however we are out of preseason and in the regular season.I’ll just say it seems this team has some fight in them!!!! I haven't seen any of the games on video yet, just the stat tracker. For those who have seen Callie Turner pitch on TV or in person I'd be interested in your observations. I noticed on her UT website bio it says she pitches with her eyes closed. I found about a 6 minute video on youtube from 2019 with some footage of her pitching and you can tell that she does close her eyes as her arm is on the way down, before it gets to her hip, and keeps them closed through the release. She also snaps her head down and to the left into her upper biceps, almost looking towards 1st base. Is she still pitching this way? I'm no expert on mechanics but I could throw pretty well when I was younger and it looks to me like this would affect accuracy. But all pitchers have their little quirks I guess so maybe it's no big deal. Anyway, here is that youtube video. You can see a close up about 35 or 40 seconds in to the vid. Is she still doing that?
