Softball Week 3 - USF Tournament

Elite pitchers are never coming here. The results are too consistently meh over the years and just look at what’s out there for recruits to choose from. If you are an elite pitcher you can go work with Rocha/Gasso (OU), Perez/Fernandez (UCLA), Mowatt/Candrea (AZ), Lombardi (Oregon), Tarr (UW), Van Brakle/Murphy (Bama), Torina (LSU)—all either former college pitcher/catchers who know the deal. If I had an elite pitching daughter and the choice was any of those or McDaniel/Karen it wouldn’t even be a close decision.

We should've kept Michele Granger on the staff, who was an Olympian and AA at Cal and who played a role in getting Abbott to come here in the first place.

Why look far... Madison Shipman would be my pick for the next head coach. Great hitter/instructor and fielding guru. Have a Renfro sister as pitching coach. What a dream team it would be.
Recruits would come just to play for them. They are well respected by coaches throughout the country and idolized by players.

Is Ellen still coaching? I know she was coaching at ULL recently.

She was a graduate asst. which is a two year position only unless something has changed. She was credited with getting some our hitters going while here doing those years. Would love to have her on staff.

Madison Shipman and India Chiles were both just volunteer assistants, which is what Marc Weekly is and was in past seasons (was a VA on our 2013 runner up team). I know Melissa Brown was a graduate assistant for a year or two after she graduated. Ashley Andrews and Lindsay Schutzler were both on staff in administrative roles in the last few years.

Thanks to y'all for all this info on some of the former LV softball players. I'm a longtime fan and season ticket holder but have absolutely no connection to anyone within the program. Always interested in inside info on current and former players and staff.

Didn’t she leave us, though? Would she come back? You’re right. Talk about a dream team, and they’d have some investment of their own in the program’s success.
I hope Shipman would coach or even consider it. Any of the alumni mentioned in this thread would be a plus. new blood is needed in the program. A staff that the athletes respect, respond to and want to win with. The athletes change yearly and the constant is the coaching staff with the regressing program.
Many coaches out there would love to coach/manage an SEC team for the Weekly’s 500k salary or less.
UCLA staff was noted earlier but asst. coach Kirk walker was not mentioned. He’s a former head coach, former pitcher and the current 3rd base coach at UCLA. I’m sure his role there is larger but I don’t know the specifics. It’s appears that the UCLA athletes respond well to him and the entire staff. Most of their games are televised so this is based on appearance. even with team miscues or errors, it appears the coaches are positive. It’s seen on their faces. Very different from Karen’s sour look when something goes wrong. That look of hers is why the team dugout is known to athletes everywhere as the NO FUN ZONE.

So former players of the Weekly's are shoo-ins as coaches.....but Karen and Ralph themselves can't cut it. Very talented players they were....who apparently drew UT's name in a hat of destinations....and self-coached themselves while they were here.

I’d take any of the UCLA staff.

Shipman was a very talented Shipman before UT. It’s apparent that her dad developed her skills.

Game has been changed to tomorrow night at 6 due to forecasted weather. It will be on Espn +. A little more notice and I might have gone. I have tickets for the weekend at ETSU but the forecast is not great at best it will be cold.

Well we did manage to stay in poll at 20 in the USA Today poll.

Well now it will be audio only. That's a bummer.
