Our RPI is unaffected by SEC east teams beating other SEC east teams. RPI is based on cumulative opponent records.

That's not exactly true. SOS is made up of the average of your oppenents win percentage not their cumulative record. Looks like the same thing but it's not. And to answer another post, Florida beating UK would be bad for UT's SOS.

Why? UK beating FLA would be better for our SOS than FLA beating UK? Doesn't make sense... which makes sense considering it's the NCAA's bases in which to judge teams seasons... :shakehead:

i still don't see how we can end up 2nd if bama beats ole miss. doesn't head to head come into play. we lost to bama. just asking how, if all the games play out as they should and we win. some help on this ?

This has probably been answered in this thread somewhere, but here goes. If it were only Tennessee and Bama tied at 10-6, then Bama would get the nod because of their beating Tennessee. However, since there would be 4 teams tied, the head-to-head record against all the teams at 10-6 is factored. Bama lost to Florida and Vandy, thus finishing 1-2 vs the other 10-6 teams. Tennessee beat Florida twice and Vandy once, thus making their record 3-2 vs the other 10-6 teams.

3-2 record beats their 1-2 record by winning %.

If there is a four-way tie between Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Alabama and Florida (Florida loses to KY; Tennessee and Alabama win out), then here would be head-to-head records amongst the teams:

Tennessee: 3-2
Vanderbilt: 3-2
Florida: 2-3
Alabama: 1-2

Then the tie-breaker between Tennessee and Vandy would be who beat the highest seeded SEC team, and Tennessee swept Florida while Vanderbilt split with them.

So, the seeds would be:

2) Tennessee
3) Vanderbilt
4) Florida
5) Alabama

Just to clarify that further...if UK loses on Sunday and Bama wins then UT would fall to the 5 seed even with a win

I was wrong. I was thinking about something else entirely. Too much math for my tired mind. UK and Florida have played the same number of games and UT played them both twice so there should be no difference for UT's RPI if either team wins.

I'm not smart enough I don't guess to follow college basketball and especially the selection process. So, the NCAA is telling me that those two teams that get to play that play in game every year just to get into the tourney are better than UT? So, the NCAA is telling me that UT is not one of the best 64 teams in the country right now? I know were not a top 25 team at this point but are we not a top 64 team? I thought that was what the tournament was. The best 64 teams in the country.

No, the tourney is 31 auto qualifiers and then the next 37 teams with the best resume (according to the committe)
