this afternoon on the sports animal...per insidetennessee.com

Cuonzo says he won't attend a Final Four game until he's coaching in it.

Says his team has the pieces to get to the Sweet 16 and once you get to the Sweet 16 "anything can happen."

Corey Stanton - Was a little restrained, said he's a natural point guard.

Odd statement when asked who could compete with Golden for PG- "Josh Richardson and...pause...there's another potential guy that may compete for that position ..." and the insinuation was it was someone who isn't here yet. Most likely a reference to Armani, but cant specifically mention him until signed.

Chievous - "He has the ability to put the ball on the ball in the basket, one of our best post guys as far as ability to score on the blocks."

"Always committed to man, will study zone in summer time, won't do it because guy's can't play man, but to give opponent's a change of pace." Apparently, we aren't the only ones to notice. Said his "assistants telling me we have to play (a zone)."

Asked about expectations of being a top 25 team next year. "Don't get caught up in it. Do we have an NCAA tournament team, yes. What level, I don't know." Have to guard against distractions. Makes sense.

"In order to be a champion you have to defend, but you have to play on both ends of the floor. Got to have talent."

Jordan McRae - best guard as far as working out. Best leader as far as working out.

Trae - Really has a lot of work to do defensively. Just look at numbers, looks like All-SEC. Needs to take next step, just being solid.

Good info, OP. I am even more encouraged than I was previously about where this is all headed. I was already happy, now I am looking forward to next season.

Great post, I listened as well, I believe he was also referring to Moore about another potential pg.

Sounds like he is a coach that tries to learn from mistakes. If he continues to do so, he could be a hell of a coach.

I found the Chievous scoring in the post comment interesting. I didn't realize he was a post player.

He is a guard, but he has a solid SEC frame. I never really thought about it before, but I can definitely see him posting up on dudes.

You won't see him playing the post, but as CCM has said he will be posting up guards more next year. It's part of the offense that he left out last year.

You don't have to be a post player to post guys up, and that something I wish more coaches would take advantage of. Not that it's the same, but D Wade does a great job posting up smaller defenders as a 2 guard.

Note: chievous has been talked about as being able to play 2-4, but with our post depth, expect to see him at the 2&3.

The Orlando magic go to Jason Richardson a lot for the first play of the game to post up the opposing teams guard. It's effective too.

Our own Richardson seems tall and strong enough to probably post up some smaller guards.

The Chievous stuff is encouraging. I hope he's a slasher. Don't necessarily care if he has a long range jump shot as long as he can get to the rim and maybe pull up from short distance. We're missing that in our offense. Trae and Jordan are the only two guys that can do that, and neither of them do it very consistently.

Just a few words i took a liking to last night when he was on. He said Cheivous was a natural scorer and he "really knows how to get the ball in the hoop". CCM had a ton positive to say about Quinton, and led me to believe he could be a player who really surprises next year. I could even see him becoming a real spark off the bench, and someone who could come in and light it up. Just a nice little thought to ponder on while we wait in the long, long off season. Can't wait till the Rocky Top League lol

Read the quote. It doesn't say "Chievous is good at posting guys up". It says "{he} is one of our best post guys...". The wording makes it sound like Chievous is playing in the post.

I've played with Q some in the TREC over the last few months. You could see a pretty big improvement from when he started playing in September to sometimes coming in after the season ended. I know it's only pick-up basketball and guys aren't going all out, but he's got a good stroke and has a nice fade-away j when posting smaller guys on the block. Now is he doing it against SEC competition? Again, no not even close, but the guy's got some tools to be a good player.

i though of you when he mentioned the zone, and using it not because they cant play man, but solely as a change of pace.

Exactly. To change the pace or stop a run or throw a wrench after the other team calls a TO. Games are usually tight and if you can steal a possession or two, you have to try. Sometimes, that change of pace even lingers when you go back to man and you may have gained momentum with the change.

Glad he is being open. His "always play man" stance was bound to change, or he would have less chance at success.

I agree with you here. Been saying since our early season defensive struggles last season as well when we refused to change up anything we were doing.

If you listened to the actual interview you wouldn't interpret it that way.

That's why I tried to clarify it, because I understand how the quote could lead you to think that.

The way I took it was he was talking about these groups that have been working out. My interpretation, he had been doing post up drills with all the guards and wings, because that's a part of the offense he wants to install next year. In those groups(wings&guards) chievous was the best post player of them.

If chievous gets minutes next year the majority will the the 2&3, I'd be shocked if we saw him at the 4 for any extended period of time.

Thanks for clarifying.

No problem, I see how his quote could be misconstrued that's why I tried to explain it.

I do like the thought of that being added into the offense though. When you think about it, Goldens pretty strong for a PG and would probably have success posting up smaller guards. Same for josh and quinton both are strong guys for their positions and could really expose that.

I'm all for doing the easier thing, if you've got a smaller defender post up and exploit that. I really like this addition to the O.

We saw the offense struggle some last year, but it seems CCM has the defense close to where he wants it and so now they're really working on the offense. We have a lot of the right tools, especially with our big men to be a good and efficient offensive team.

Limiting turnovers will be big as well IMO. Our D we know is solid, and if the offense comes along we can be in every game. We need to not shoot ourselves in the foot wih turnovers and take care of the ball. I'm excited for the season to start.

I'm a believer. But then again... I have been for a long time. Still, its hard not to be excited about next year.

Q looked great in RTL last summer I look forward to big things!!!

I don't take anything these kids do in the RTL as solid. It's an opportunity to stay in shape and play very little defense. People come to watch guys dunk and drop 40 in a game, not great defense and motion offense.

This is where Q excelled from what I heard of his high school days he was very tough to guard when slashing to the hoop.

With the added strength and a season under his belt of understanding and studying of the college game I expect big things of him next season and to be a great spark off the bench for us.
