Dateline 1970- Sweet revenge against Dickey- Battle's boys storm to a 38 to 7 victory to leave old Doug eating sour grapes.

1990- Vols 45 Gators-3 highlighted by 91 yrd KOR to start the 2nd half and 28 points by the Vols in the 3rd quarter to deflate those poor scaley skinned swimmers.

1992-Shuler and the Vols skin the Gators (ranked 4th at the time) 31 to 14.

1998- Volunteers end Gator's 5 yr stint at the top of the Eastern Division on the leg of the great Jeff Hall with a 41 yrd overtime fieldgoal- Vols 20 Gators 17.

2001-Vols conquer the "Swamp" 34-32

2003-Banks owns the show leading the Vols to a 24-10 win at the "almighty" swamp .

Time to kick th sh** outta the Gators again and make some more great moments.....

gator SEASON IS OPEN (no limit)

1998 and 2001 were both just outstanding. Especially 1998... after all the Peyton disasters, we had them at home, national TV, beat them in an incredibly close, intense, defensive struggle of a game. I remember going nuts when Florida missed potential tying FG in OT.

2001 was crazy. I was in a St. Louis hotel room getting set to tour the U of Missouri campus that week (ended up finishing a close 2nd to SU). I listened to the first half on the way to St. Louis on the freakin TV band on my walkman. Listening to the game on radio is tough enough, but listening to it with only the TV audio, even more rough. Then I got the hotel room and saw we had a chance in the 2nd half. Then Travis Stephens just took over... unreal. One thing that sticks out about this game... there was some crazy situation where Phil went for 2 to go up by 10 or something, and ended up missing it, so thats why Florida had the chance to tie in the final seconds. What a fantastic game.

Let's hope 2004 produces great memories too!! :D

You can't use Florida like you can with Buck Fama.

Funny story time. So I mentioned how I was on a college tour in Dec of 01 visiting Missouri. That summer I visited UCF, FSU, and even, shudder, UGA and Florida. On that same trip, I saw UT again and went to the UT-SU game in Sept of 01.

So anyway, when I toured Florida's campus, I really hated the place. Just never liked Florida obviously... the campus was ugly and not walker-friendly. My dad and I decided to check out "The Swamp." We could basically walk in to the stadium unattended (pre 9/11 days) just like we did at FSU. So I walked into the Swamp, looked around a little bit. I said to my dad, "Now that I've come here, maybe we can break the curse this year." :D

And, that is why I singlehandedly broke UT's Swamp curse. :eek:lol: Seriously though, its like you have to confront your fears to defeat it. I confronted the great beast, and it was slain that December.

I was born in Tennessee and moved to Florida when I was 12 so I’ve seen both sides of this wonderful rivalry.

As a kid growing up in South Florida I learned quick that you either are a Gator fan, a Seminole fan, a Hurricane fan or you follow whomever your family follows. My dad and brother luckily were both big Vol fans, so I followed suit. As a young boy I had many friends who were passionate about Florida teams but that was elevated once we went to College.

Many of my close friends moved to Gainesville and Tallahassee to attend UF, Sante Fe, FSU and TCC, but I moved to Arkansas and attended a private Christian school. My roommate was from Gainesville and was a huge Gator fan. We planned to watch the game together. After a full week of trash talking the game day finally come. I was very nervous considering my company. We shared blows through out the game but I had the last laugh. When the Gators missed that OT field goal relief and joy fell over my body. Needless to say I made several calls and left several messages to Gainesville and South Florida following the game. Later that year I sat down with a friend, and FSU student, to watch the National championship. We rolled over FSU and that was a wrap on a wonderful season.

The following year I transferred to TCC in Tallahassee and in the middle of Seminole country. I lived about a half mile from Doak and we ran the field on many late nights. We made several trips to Gainesville with it being so close and I loved every trip. Gainesville is a great college town and atmosphere. The Seminoles won the national championship that year, cue my jaw dropping watching Michael Vick, I enjoyed the fun and later left Tallahassee.

I still watch the UF and UT games with UF fans and love every snap, unless it's raining. And I have learned that hail marys before half time do happen and make able field goals are missed in OT.

Oh yeah, I visited UGA last summer and snuck into the field while it was under construction. Maybe my sneak attack will be enough to break our slump with UGA!

Anyone can run the stairs or sometimes even play football in the swamp to this day. :number1:

Banks catch before the half took the life out of the Gators. My seconf trip to Gainesville, but I was in the UT section behind the band. It is my favorite road experience to date.

The 1990 game is way back, but I remember the look on Spurrier's face when Andy Kelly handed off to Von Reeves on a tight end reverse and then Reeves stopped and hit Carl Pickens in stride on a 50 yard bomb for a TD. One of the coolest plays I've ever seen.

That would have been 2000. I can still see that rat bastard linesman emphatically pumping his arms in the air to signal touchdown like he was so sure that it was a catch. The replay showed he was behind the receiver and had no way of seeing if the ball was caught. I think the ball was in the receivers' hands for about a tenth of a second - one of the worst calls I've ever seen.

Let's get back to positive thoughts. How about Mose Phillips taking a screen pass to the house in 1992 through the lake that had formed all the way down one side of the field on that old artificial turf. It rained so hard during that game that the network lost the TV signal for awhile.

What is it with Tennessee - Florida games in Knoxville and massive downpours?!?

Amen, Mose was the man! one of my all time favorite players, Travis Stephens , JJ McKleski, Shaun Bryson, and AL Wilson also at the top of "my" list.... there were probably more product players through the years but they all played with "heart" and brought every thing they had every time they got on the field! Man I'm misting up ...Bring it on Gators!!!!! Go Vols!!!!!!!!

Whoa! Definitely the first JJ McCleskey reference in Vol Nation history!? Now I have to figure out a way to work in a Pete Panuska or B.B. Cooper reference. :rocks:

That call and game was the worst ever! Getting beat is one thing but getting robbed is another! Also, that year we got beat by LSU in OT. What a :censored: year! :bash: :bash:

I may have the best moment in Tennessee football ever!!

Year: 1998 vs. Arkansas
Place: Knoxville
Time: seconds left in the game

The bonehead QB (Clint Stoerner, I think) stumbled or trips and puts the ball on the ground. Fumble!!!!.........recovery ......score..........win........undefeated.....national championship!!!!

:pepper:    :good: :cross:

The final day of that 1998 regular season was one of the best days of college football I can remember. UT needed 2 games to break their way, then needed to beat MSU in the SEC Champ in order to have a shot to play in the Fiesta Bowl. That day, Miami beats UCLA in a crazy, outstanding game. Check one off. Then, in the ABC game right before UT's, Texas A & M shocks Kansas St in Double OT in the Big 12 title game! Then UT came on the field knowing they had a shot to play for the title, and beat Mississippi State in a great game, with Tee Martin of course making the plays he needed to make in the 4th quarter. What a day that was.
