Look at our past man! Tennessee is not a basketball school. Bruce came in and has built Tennessee to a respectable program. He got T. Harris to come here out of Syracuse country. He got Hopson to come here from Kentucky. It's not easy to get players to come here in a football dominated school. We've went deeper in the NCAA tourney with Bruce than ever before. What's wrong with using JC point guards? I bet you thought Bruce was awesome back when we beat Pitt and Nova.

Good point. Ohio St. and Texas are doing just awful in basketball right now.

lol. Hilarious. I can't stop laughing.

And Kentucky gave us Scotty Hopson btw without fight - but you probably don't pay attention to basketball outside of game days to actually know that.

I actually follow year round to B Ball and Football. I guess 6'6 kids with huge potential just grow on trees in Kentucky. Maybe they have a crystal ball at Rupp that told them Hopson would be a bust.

the thing that makes me think is the fact that the majorty of pearls recurits have been bust i mean if you think about it the better players we have had, Lofton-Inherited ,J. Smith-Transfer, T. Smith-transfer, Prince-Transfer. then he had Chism who was succesful, Hopson is succesful but not what he was made out to be. Duke Crews Ramar smith kicked off. Woolridge-bust, Jurrick-major bust, Tobias-seems legit, Bwill-decent, Fields-transfer. it just starts seeming to me that the players he brings in our mostly busts or he dosent devleop them and most of his best players are ones he didnt get.

Texas is a top 20 all time winning basketball program despite their horrible postseason success. Tennessee is a top 40 all time winning b-ball program. Don't think we are as bad a lot of people make us out to be.

Creekballer, I agree with what you said regarding the recruits Pearl has gotten, a lot of his recruits/players haven't panned out, but I have tons of faith in Pearl. You could see the difference tonight, the players played extremely well defensively and were more under control offensively (besides Tatum). Harris needs more touches and has to stop making dumb fouls or playing poor defense.

And they do it every year too don't they. Wasn't Tennessee like one shot away last year from being in the final four? C'mon guys, we can't win all the time. If we have two years in a row where we just stink it up and totally suck then yeah get rid of him.

You sound exactly like a Fulmerite circa 2005.

I know right now is not the best time, because we just lost a game that in all honesty we should have won. However, for all you calling for coach Pearl's head I think you have forgotten our past and really our present. Think of where we were before he arrived and better yet think of who would replace him. Do you really think we will get anyone better? I love the Vols but the fact is were not a basketball destination for top coaches. Are there better coaches than CBP? Sure there are, but how many of them are going to come here? Just something to think about.
Even Jerry Green went to four straight NCAA tourneys at UT.:eek:k:

What people fail to realize is that there are other coaches out there who can win games for us. Pearl isn't the end all be all of coaching.
Too much logic for the "Pearl IS UT bball crowd". I agree though

We've had two out of three where we've vastly underachieved, and NCAA problems. I'm not on the fire Bruce bandwagon, but he needs to start making good things happen.

You made the point that we are a football school and can't succeed in basketball because of that fact to which I countered with two schools who are primarily football schools yet have had and are having great success in basketball. Your argument is extremely weak.

what do you know, it was because we couldn't win a game in the last 30 seconds.

I know Bruce Pearl is not the only coach that can win at UT. All I'm saying is that UT took a chance in hiring him and fortunately it worked out. I don't know what other coaches are out there that would be interested, but I know we're not going to draw a big name coach away from another school. So if we don't get lucky again we're looking at what, 2 maybe 3 years before he's fired and we hire someone else?

I never said we couldn't succeed. I just made the point that historically we are known as a football school. I was trying to point out that we don't have great tradition like Kentucky, Duke, UNC, or so many others. Looking at the time that Bruce has been here our record has been better in that stretch than most would have thought possible. It's hard to argue with you if you don't read carefully.

And once again, football schools can have successful basketball programs, so your argument holds little merit.

I'm just saying that it adds a degree of difficulty. Here are some examples of great basketball and bad football: Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, UNC, and UCONN. It's hard to be dominant in both. Kids want the spotlight on them. They don't want to have to share it with someone else.
