georgia was ripe for defeat yesterday--coming off a big home win and with all the injuries. It shows that we still have a lot of issues. I think we are becoming more competitive--but we've got to win a freakin' big SEC game.

True. Any loss is a failure, but some losses are better than others. And there were many positives to take away from this loss.

But the reality check is Kiffy almost beat a #1 Bama team (with two walkons on the O line), and Doofus almost beat a #9 (?) LSWho team with a freshman O line -- both without the support of the Neyland crowd. And we all know how bad those two coaches turned out to be in the long run.

Please don't warns us that we shouldn't be excited. I was at that game and I saw how much effort that team was giving. I saw that they were not going to quit. People all around had tears in their eyes because they felt the difference. I'm excited and I'll live if things don't go my way. I saw progress with this team.

for disappointment. We lost a game, at home, to a team that lost 4 starting offensive skill guys, DURING THE GAME. And it was a game that you could argue we had some great breaks go our way (special teams score, UGA hitting the goal post)

I'm only saying this because this could and should be a momentum builder-but if people start expecting too much (see NC State last year) the subsequent meltdowns will derail that. Just my two cents after sleeping on it (and getting drunken messages all night from other vols haha)

You do realize that we've had a coaching change since the NC state game last year , right?. you also neglect to mention that we're also without some key players too. Lane and Maggitt would like to say thank you for your support.

I agree. I do think we have a great chance to beat South Carolina, but that doesn't mean we will win out or even have a chance against Allerbubba. People should view this game as a great preview for what will happen once we have some depth and talent.

I think that's how most really see it. This team played hard and tough so now they know what they can do if they keep working hard. But remember also, we are missing Mo Couch, Maggit, Saulsberry, etc... So it works both ways. Part of the game.

Said a similar thing on the way out of the game. We lost the game due to penalties we gave up when we had a chance to force an upset.

However, don't overlook the the confidence builder that this game gave to the team. You must believe to succeed.

We have just as many players out and play 20+ freshman. No matter what they lost I think it safe to say we are really improving and the kids are seeing that they can do this.

The team that played yesterday played with heart, courage and determination. They played like true Volunteers and gave their all for Tennessee. Sorry you couldn't see that.

a bunch of georgia fans on the ajc blogs are blaming the close game on injuries and "getting hosed" by the refs -- funny stuff

i watched game twice and i fail to see even one call that could deemed georgia getting "hosed". what are they referring to?

UGA blames injuries but dont take into account the guys UT had out. I don't think we used another RB all day besides pigs reverse. Saulsberry, couch, curt, riyahd, mike williams, devrin, marlin, brewer went out real early, plus a few more. We were outgunned either way so I dont wanna hear it.

Injuries are part of the game. Our best LB has been out all year. Our 2nd string RB was out yesterday. Neal was in a walking boot all week with a sprained ankle and the coaches weren't sure if he could go. Maybe he has a higher tolerance of pain than Gurley has. The coaches weren't able to practice the team in full pads all week because we were so banged up.

Again, everyone is nicked up this time of year and going forward. UGA still had one of the best QB's in the nation healthy. That's why they won.

Even with UGA's injuries, their 1's, 2's and 3's are better than ours. Much better. Our margin of error was much smaller than their margin of error. In 2 years, that won't be the case.

Plus, they have a Heisman quarterback and we have Worley, who made great improvement yesterday. (But few had confidence in him before then)

amazingly the GA sr QB who yesterday set the record for most passing yards in SEC history had LESS passing yards in the game than Worley.

It's a good thing we didn't have any of our players out of the game, oh wait.

I'm extremely proud of both our Vols and our fans. We showed a fight last night I've not seen in a good while. I think this sets us up for a good foundation to work on going forward. Our fans was so loud last night my ears were freakin ringing 3 hrs after the game. We need this type of atmosphere every home game. Great job to all and even though the official outcome was a L ill take a game like that anyday. Great job to all and GBO!

So what do you think we should do? Just say we suck because if we don't we might be disappointed or we might not be able to set back and smugly say I told you so at every turn?

I agree with big ugly seems like a lot of posters on here root for failure just so they can say they were right all along.

And just my opinion but when your the smaller weaker team your only chance to win is to knockout a few playmakers "During the game". Sweep the leg! After all it is football not golf.

I seriously don't want to hear the bull**** about competing w a Georgia team only because of their injuries. All teams have injuries and you deal with it. Teams like UGA always have talent waiting in the wings. It really doesn't damper the excitement of what I saw on the field last night.

Injuries we have Curt Maggitt, Marlin Lane,Trevarris Saulsberry, and Devrin Young. Could any of these players make a difference for Tennessee. The answer is yes teams deal with injuries Georgia still had more players with more experience that we had playing yesterday.

After South Alabama a bunch of people were posting that we'd only win 4 or 5 games this season. Now people are posting that we'll win 8 games.

The team didn't change that much in one week. Over-reactions to the last game in both cases.

You missed the part where we had some breaks go against us, too. Like Pig Watson fumbling the ball, all on his own, less than a yard away from a TD, and the refs missing a blatant hold on Georgia's game-tying drive, only to turn around (on the same play) and nail us with a personal foul.

Also, the special teams TD had a degree of luck, yes, but the special teams were fantastic all game long, so it isn't totally luck when something really good happens.

I don't expect another performance like that one, but it wouldn't shock me, either, because I'm a believer in Butch Jones.

Agreed, unfortunately. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Hopefully that "truth" is 6 wins, not 5.

I see at least 6 now maybe 7 if that same team shows up every week. I was glad to see them pull together and win last week and this should have been a win this week it's truly a game of inches.I think this put a taste of what it would be like to win a big game and they will want it all now  GO VOLS!
