Some thoughts...

It was PG play that really hurt UT last year. Golden was still growing into the roll and was force to play extended minutes due to the lack of a decent back-up. So not only was Golden making some mistakes because of learning to play the position, he made some just due to fatigue. I know people are high on Moore but he will just be a Freshman and IIRC didn't play the PG in high school. If someone does step up and claim the back-up PG minutes, that would go a long way toward fixing many of last years issues.

As for the last 3 games, I still think if Golden doesn't tweak his knee, they would have held on vs MTSU in the NIT. I also wonder how long Maymon played on a bad knee (seems like the LSU game is the first I can remember him hurting it) and just how bad was it. Throw in Hall getting suspended and what progress this team was making heading down the stretch kind of got derailed. I know every team has to deal with injuries/suspensions but it did seems like UT got more than its fair share right there at the end.

Golden averaged 32 minutes a game on the year. A pg in the SEC should be able to play at least that many minutes. Just about all of KY starting 5 average close to 32 per minutes. Teague average 32.6 as a Freshman. Fatigue may have been a factor but shouldn't have been. The team actually got better once Hall was suspended. They went 6-3 with wins over Ark, Ole Miss, at LSU, and Vandy.

Savannah State and Ole Miss was badly a played game as APU early in the year. Absolutely no heart against Ole Miss and no heart or effort against SSU.

Armani played some point in HS fwiw. I don't know how much more ready hell be than josh, but my gut says Armani will be better equipped to come in and play backup PG than Richardson was.

How do you all feel about redshirting yemi...

Before freaking out, hold on...

CCM will wanna go 9 deep, most likely 3 in the post stokes, maymon and hall. So there's a pretty good chance that yemi will see very limited minutes next year except in ases of extreme foul trouble. In that case we do have miller, along with chievous who supposedly can play the 4.

I doubt it will happen, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea. He gets an extra year to learn, which he desperately needs. If an injury occurred he can burn the redshirt and still play if need be.

Just curious on everyone's thoughts...

depending on how things shake out this fall, a yemi redshirt might be a viable option.

for example, if maymon looks like he will get very little burn at the 3 then both he and stokes are going to combine for 60 of the 80 minutes in the post, give the other 20 to hall then chevious and miller only play there when we have foul trouble or mop up duty.

i think the team will be better suited for yemi to hold on to as much eligibility as he can.

I don't think Chevious is a 4 at all. I think all his minutes will be at the 3. There's a log jam at the 4/5. No need for him to be there.

And yet Golden was gassed at the end of many games. Some guys can just play more minutes than others. I wish Golden was a 36 minutes per game guy, but last year he got fatigued late in games and it showed. Some of his injuries might have played a role in that too. I don't know how a guy breaks his nose and doesn't miss any time.

Did they get better when Hall got suspended or did the competition level go down? The one quality road win in that 9 game stretch was LSU, plus 1 good home win vs Vandy. With Hall they beat Uconn and Florida twice and gave Kentucky all they could handle in TBA.

I go no arguments about the SEC tourney loss to Ole Miss or the Savannah State game. They did not play like they did down the stretch. I am going to chalk it up to inexperience and keep my fingers crossed that next year they stay focused all the way through.

I think Richardson working at the PG position was out of desperation. Washpun wasn't getting it done, McBee cannot play it against an athletic defender, and McRae at PG, while exciting, might be just too many opportunities for Jordan to pull the trigger. Not really worth the growing pains with Cam since he was a senior. Richardson fit the bill at the time. Hopefully Moore works out. All he has to do is hold the fort down for about 4 minutes a half for the 1st season. Then sign a PG in 2013 and see what happens from there.

Best lineup ever

CCM is actually quoted as saying chievous can play the 4, and that he has the best post up game on the team.

Personally I doubt he gets minutes at any position this year, but going forward I could see him evolving into that 3/4 type of player, much like Darius miller was last year for KY.

I'm looking forward to seeing him though, maybe he has made huge strides and will be a solid contributor for us this year.

Oh yes it was purely out of desperation, but he got some minutes doing it. Also, the staff has continued to work him there some in case Armani isn't capable of doing it, or possibly injury.

My guess is Armani will probably get that backup PG minutes and they're his to lose. I'd say josh will continue to get some reps though in case Armani can't handle it or as I said got injured.

Either way as you said, all we need is 4 minutes a half from one of them where they just play solid, shouldn't be asking too much.

Well, I only saw him in about 5 or 6 games last year in the RTL. That is all I have to base my evaluation on Chievous. But I do not remember seeing him playing the 4 or 5. Basically, was a guard. Being at 6'5", I would hate to see him try and post up any SEC 4 or 5. Miller is around 6'8". Big difference. He might look good in practice posting up McBee or Golden, but I'm willing to bet his $hit gets smacked when trying to post up Stokes, Yemi, or Hall.

Fwiw Barkley was 6'4" and maymon is what 6'6"? So at 6'5" and being mobile and with more of an outside shot he could probably make it work, especially for a few minutes a game. Not saying that he should play 30 minutes there, but I think he could probably shuffle between the 2-4

I think it would be very dependent on how muscularly built and physical Chievous plays (I have never seen him play). Barkley and Maymon were/are built like linebackers and played with that intensity most of the time. On the other hand Woolridge (who I actually liked him during his time here) was built like a college PF but just didn't like the physicality playing the post required. Dane Bradshaw was a guy able to overcome his physical limitations with basketball savvy and a non-stop motor.

I personally wouln't mind seeing Chievous play the PF in very limited spot minutes (mop up and early season only). It would make me feel much better about the front court numbers going into next season.

Definitely without a doubt it depends on the mindset and his build. I think he could be that hybrid and play in the post some from what I've read, but as you mentioned we haven't seem it. I'd as we'll like to see it from him some, maybe in Europe some.

No worries about next years front court, stokes and Nichols will be holding it down!!!

Maymon list at 6'7" and weighs 265. Chievous listed at 6'5" and 201#. Not someone I want to see playing the post.

Why would you want to see one minute of Chievous playing the 4 when we have Hall, Maymon, Stokes, Miller, Yemi on the roster. Chievous playing the post should not be in any game plan what so ever this year.

I'm not referring to this year, I'm taking about next year. Ive already said I dont think chievous sees minutes at any position his year. All I said about this year was maybe a few minutes in the post in Europe, everyone plays in those games so why not try it out?

You think yemi is going to see major minutes?

If not I don't see much of a difference of yemi vs miller for less than 5 minute a game.

Ten minutes a game? Yes. I don't he'll ever get major minutes unless we see major foul trouble.

I don't see him averaging that, unless maymon is playing the 3 for major minutes. If not, that gives you maymon and stokes 30 min guys each, which leaves 20 minutes in the post. I fully expect hall to get pretty much those remaining 20 minutes unless there's the occasional foul trouble. As I said though I highly doubt yemi averages 10 minutes a game, I'd be shocked.

Supposedly Kenny is playing well, and CCM has said he thinks Kenny is primed for a breakout season. If so, that could be a great 3 man rotation in the post and a huge advantage for us.
