Something got me thinking

Depends on how you spread out classes. Yeah, if you're taking only the minimum full time load at most any ME program, yeah it's going to take you 5+ years. But my sister told me that's also true at Purdue.

This.

UT is suppose to take 5 years. But it is possible to get it done in 4.

Although, engineering graduate programs, at least mechanical at UT, is only 24 credit hours, I think.

I'm wondering why you consider an engineering degree to be similar to a law or medicine degree.

You obviously have never experienced an engineering course. Im going to UT Chatt for my civil engineering degree. Civil is the easiest kind of engineering i think, and its still very tough.

Undergrad at UT I would say an engineering or architecture segree would be the toughest. Like I said, at least at UT.

I was always impressed w/Darwin Walker and his engineerign exploit. I think Deion Grant was engineering too.

i took electrical engineering at cal. worked my arse off and averaged around a B-. Then switched to econ, cut my workload at least in half, and got straight As.

You all really think that it is as tough as pre-med, or pre-law?

No such thing as "pre-med" or "pre-law" degree unless you're trying to pick up girls at a bar. Any degree will get you in law school if your grades and LSAT scores are adequate and any degree will get you in med school if you have the right core courses and the right MCAT score.

Yeah, I just switched from mech. engr. to applied mathematics. Partially so I could reduce my workload and start working again, partially so I didn't have to go to Corvallis for 3-4 years for a good education. Yuck. I got accepted to Washington for ME but couldn't afford the tuition... $30k+/year, on top of the fact that I'm still not 24 yet and my dad makes enough money (I've paid 100% of my own tuition) that I don't qualify for very much financial aid.
