"Jordan McRae, Kenny Hall, Renaldo Woolridge, and Jeronne Maymon took our starters to jail in practice today, bad sign for Thursday, good sign for the future."

This is from volwarrior33's thread about Vol Calls. If this statement by Pearl is true, why in the Hell aren't these guys in the rotation? Sure seems to me like it sends a message that it doesn't matter what you do in practice.

I was wondering the same thing last night. If you really wanted to make a point, you would start everyone of them since they outperformed the others in practice.

Unfortunately, this has been indicated several times this season. However, these players simply aren't good enough to warrant any minutes in games. Our starters are performing so well, they simply can't be beat out by these players regardless of how well they do in practice.

I've been at work for 9 hours and I'm tired, which leads me to hoping this was a joke.

BECAUSE SKYLAR MCBEE PLAYS.

It would have been a brilliant idea when the season began the spiral down. At this point, we need to try and save as much face as possible, which means winning 1 of the next 2, winning at least the first round of the SEC tourney, and making the big Dance. We need to win, and I think our best chance to win is mostly with the people on the floor. You need people to take others to "jail" in practice, i.e. Rudy, it betters the whole team by increasing competition. But at this point we simply need to win.

So you wouldn't consider looking at McRae over McBee or Maymon over Pearl? If they're killing the starters in practice, I guarantee you they're better than the guys playing ahead of them.

McRae, Maymon, Woolridge, and Hall taking minutes from Pearl and McBee would be perfectly fine by me. Especially if they are playing the starters that hard in practice.

I honestly no longer have a problem with S. Pearl getting the minutes he does.

does this mean Steven and Skylar were starters? :dunno:

I don't believe so. I was just saying that if that crew is beating the starters head to head, then some of them deserve playing time over guys like McBee and Pearl.

I would go for the first, not the latter. Not saying he shouldn't get time, just not ahead.

Again, I say, the mind of Pearl is a mysterious thing. (It's kind of like that ever-changing maze of hedges in the Harry Potter movie.)

Maybe it's just me but has Maymon done anything with his minutes to prove he deserves more? Only thing I can remember him doing is turning the ball over.

I don't think he is that bad. He gets rebounds and has more offense than Minnie Pearl. I like to see him and Hall get more minutes over Fields.

Did you see Maymon play against Vandy? He got 2 or 3 offensive rebounds that he couldn't put back in to save his life. He has been where he needs to be here lately. I would like to see Hall get some of Fields minutes.

Kinda explains why we have lost 12 games this year. Four 4 star players sitting on the bench! Surely one of them would contribute more than Tatum.

I don't know. Was this a one day deal or has it been happening regularly? If I had to fathom a guess, I think Pearl spent so much time dickering around with the lineups that he doesn't want to disrupt anything so late in the season. Otherwise, I don't know. I know that McRae has shat himself most of the time he's been in the game, so maybe he's just not ready for the bright lights.

And that's the reason. Lineups should be set by now. Consistency within those lineups should there.

In case you haven't noticed, there is no consistency. That's why a change is appropriate.

I don't get it. What do you suggest? McBee's minutes have been reduced over the last several games while Josh Bones minutes have increased. Good? Yes. Hall and Maymon are getting some minutes at the 5 to replace Field's minutes. Good? Yes.Those are the magnitude of changes that are to be expected this late in the season if a team is struggling. I really don't know what kind of changes you want/expect to see. Drastic changes in the lineup, such as tossing McRae and Woolridge out there for 15 minutes aren't going to work. I really don't know what you want.

We've already seen McRae play defense and his wild offensive game early on in the season. And we already know who Woolridge is.
