Elway joined the Bronco's in 1983. Sharpe in 1990. McCaffrey, Smith, and Davis in 1995 (Davis was a rookie.) They won Super Bowls in 97 and 98.

Manning joined the Colts in 1998, Harrison was already there. Edge was drafted in 1999, Wayne in 2001.

Once Elways nucleus was formed, it took the Broncos two years to win a super bowl, and they repeated it the next year.

Manning's nucleus has been formed since at least 2001. It is 2005, still no Super Bowl.
defense defense defense.

Yes, the Bronco's superbowl defenses were better than the previous years Colt's defenses, I will concede that. However, if Manning doesn't win with this team and defense, then what?

Come on guys, everybody knows u dont win super bowls with only a dominate offense. The Colts have had a great offense for years now, and still no super bowl. Yes there defense is better this year, but i dont see them getting to the super bowl. Until they get better on defense they will have a hard time getting past the Patriots again.

Unless you are the St. Louis Rams.

Oh, so if the Colts lose, it's Manning's fault but if they win, the defense gets credit.Do you even process what you are trying to say? There is no i in team anyways.

Very interesting how you read that. The Colt's have more than a good enough defense this year help a good offense on the way to a Super Bowl. I stated that if the Colts win a super bowl with Manning, then I am wrong on my perception of him. The only thing that having a good defense does is make it harder for the rest of you to be 'Manning apologists.'

If u look at the Patriots dominance through the years u will notice they always play as a team. They dont have any bad apples or attitudes on the team. When they lose its not always Tom Bradys fault is it, so when the Colts lose why does anyone want to blame Peyton

Speaking of Pats fans.....there weren't many Pats fans around until they won the Super Bowl.....talk about bandwagon fans!!!

the colts may be running in to the same problem the Steelers ran in to last year....they may have peaked already....too early for the playoffs, which is what happened to the Steelers...Big Ben hit the rookie wall, and it was all over once it came to playing the Pats in a game that mattered....

it'll be interesting to see how the Colts respond the next two weeks....hopefully, they'll get back on the horse....but the scary thing is that right now, the Pats are starting to top out...getting back to that playoff form that could be trouble for anyone that plays them, not just the Colts.

How many people here were Colts fans before 1998 or worse yet, 1999?

Since I live here in Indiana I've been a Colts fan since the day they arrived in Indy. That includes the days when COLTS stood for Count On Losing This Sunday.....So to go from a team that you wondered if they would win any games in a season to one that flirts with a undefeated season is a great thing. Thank God for Peyton, Dungy and some great drafting!
