Sour Grapes from Oregon

Oregonlive sucks for talking sports. UofO football fans might listen to one of the sports talk stations in town and call in, but that's about it. You won't find them on the internet anywhere.

To whoever said it, don't knock it 'til you've been there. Autzen stadium is definitely loud. But not because of the fans. It's because Phil Knight makes sure that program gets more money than any other CFB program in the country, and thus paid architects big bucks to produce maximum on-field noise.

All that said... A big-name recruit who had Oregon on his list after signing day but didn't commit and got Duck fans hopes up?! No wai!!!

This same thing happens every year. I'm still shocked people fall for it. Phil Knights pockets are the only reason that program is relevant at all. In the end, the best players will go where they can win and prop themselves up for a good shot at the NFL. UofO only has the latter, so they will continue to land a handful of big-name recruits and just be kinda good at best.

"seriously man...how the hell does Tennesee end up getting him? they JUST started recruiting him...what a ****** bag...haha. I'd of rather seen him go to Miami.

I can't wait for all the sanctions that Tenn is going to get by the time Kiffin is done."

(from Scout)

"IF we get Bryce Brown, the plankton on Pure-Orange will immediately start yammering about what a drama queen he is, and what a bust he'll be."

(from Scout)

gotta love that comment considering their tiny board is still in full-on meltdown almost 12 hours after the fact.

"but the fact that he somehow ended up at Tennesee baffles me."

(Scout)

"All the best to BB, honestly. I hope the kid does well in Tennessee. Aside from proximity to home, however, I can't think of a reason he would've gone to Ten.

I say this with all sincerity: I bet BB would've rushed for more yards, SPLITTING CARRIES WITH LB MIND YOU, than Ten's whole team will rush for.

Again, I wish the world for the kid, but if I was looking to promote myself as a running back, I'd probably select a team that was known for their rushing offense."

(Scout)

yes...Tennessee has no one in the league and has done nothing to establish themselves as a legitimate rushing offense.

Yes. With about twice as many people.

Like I said, it's not that UofO fans are that loud. The place is just designed to produce that level of on-field volume. Quite the genius piece of engineering, really pretty impressive.

I'm still in awe that UofO fans are pissed over this... You think they would have figured this routine out by now.

I guess they didnt hear BB say who his top three where after he picked ut today. Oregon wasnt even in the top three.

I do believe their best back that I can remember was a Tennessee hand-me-down, Ontario Smith

Bryce Brown said his "fleshly" decision definitely would have been Oregon. Lol - he was lusting after the shoes and jersey options.

Two things aside from history, stadium etc. that I think donald duck fans don't get:

1) I saw a couple fans mention distance. That is in no way a factor. It's a 26 hour drive from KS to Oregon. It's about the same for Miami. It's still a 14 hour drive to Knoxville. Either way, BB going home or parents coming to games, they're going to be flying.

2) They rip BB for saying UT will prepare him better for the NFL. To back it up they cite their RB's rushing stats the past few years. Did it ever occur to them that perhaps the best way for a future NFL RB to prepare is to go against the best defenses in the country? A top notch SEC defense is as close as it gets in 1-A to NFL. Even if he doesn't put up mind-staggering numbers in games (like he would against Stanford, OSU-West, Washington etc.), won't he still be better prepared for the pro's going against Monte's guys in practice?

thier best shot at a title was with DD and JS at the helm.
I must admit they had a hell of a team that year, but we all know how it ended sadly.

I believe if DD wouldnt have torn his ACL that year he would have came close to winning the heisman.

Reminds me of Joey Harrington. What a piece of s*** he was. Just goes to show you can have all the hype in the world with enough money, but if you just aren't that good you will be exposed in the NFL.

The truly sad part is that Oregon wasn't even in his top 3.

Actually, Brown himself said he would have picked Oregon if it wasn't for his parents. So, I believe that would make them #1 and UT #2 until you factor in mom and dad.

Autzen is loud because of the fans. It was built before Knight was involved in supporting the program and architecture is not the reason. Though, I think that it's pretty amusing that someone who has been there thinks it was too loud to not have some technical reason behind it.

Oregon is a well funded team. But, they don't get more money than any college football program.

Two years in a row, Oregon was in on the #1 recruit, who also delayed the announcement into a highly publicized event. "It happens every year" is a bit hyperbolic. According to your argument that good players go where they can win, Oregon stacks up pretty good against UT by that measure over the last 10 years and especially over the last few.

If you're going to bag on every Oregon fan you can find about not having facts straight. At least make sure that what you're throwing out is accurate.

Again, we're flattered that other people think we're too loud to be humanly possible. There is no magic trick. Just intense fans.

I can't speak for all Oregon fans on this subject. Some are pissed. Some are dumb. I'm not. I respect that Brown had to make the decision for his own reasons. If it wasn't going to work for him at Oregon, even if it was only due to his parents wishes, I'm ok with that.

According to him, today, Oregon was his #1. Have you not seen that interview?

Yea every site of a school that was in running, or just from a team that hates us, all say we will be given the axe. We paid off Butler, bought BB an Escalade, he will be a drug addict, Kiffin still sucks, Cheaters, etc etc. I love it.

Yea, I have been on several different sites and they are all trashing CLK and BB. It's time for us as VOL fans to unite and take the "US AGAINST THE WORLD" approach and rally around our Coaches and Team!

Wheaton, you are putting words into BB's mouth. He said that if he would have picked a school early without consideration of others, it would have been Oregon. Unfortunately for your team, an 18 year old kid was advised by his parents not to make a rash decision (my heavens, those parents do crazy things) and BB realized that he had to think of the future, and UT is where his future is.
