SC had no timeouts! Should have down it on the one the .5 yardline! Game would have been over..

And given the situation they had in front of them, it played out just fine for them. Yes, it was a way to end the game more quickly, but even if South Carolina had gotten the 2 point conversion, Alabama would have also had 43 seconds and 3 timeouts to try to get a FG.

(An addendum: most teams generally assume they will recover an onside kick, and had the game been tied because of a successful 2 point conversion then South Carolina wouldn’t have been trying an onside kick.)

I don’t think the OC called up the offensive lineman deciding to catch the tipped ball and lose them 15-20 of their 43 seconds rather than just knocking it down.

Allowing your OC to have downfield plays when all you need is a FG. Beamer proves time and time again that's he's worth his contract. I don’t think the OC called up the offensive lineman deciding to catch the tipped ball and lose them 15-20 of their 43 seconds rather than just knocking it down.

He shouldn’t been calling pass plays there with a turnover heavy qb when you just need a couple 1st downs to get into position to kick a fg. Run the ball with Sanders, it was working until they decided to get cute.
