South Carolina held on at least 7 or 8 plays, all uncalled

I went back and watched and can post a bunch of screenshots. On almost every drive they scored, they got away with a hold on a critical play.
Yeah, and? Did that lose us the game and were they so egregious that even USCjr fans are looking away? No, it didn't and they aren't. Officiating is a human endeavor and sometimes they 'miss' stuff. Move on, you sound like a whiner. We have had our share of breaks as well.

Seriously? Completely changed the complexion of the game.

I am very skeptical of Banks' ability but USCe's holding and getting away with it prevented UT from getting a pass rush. The lack of a pass rush led to EVERYTHING else.
I tend to agree with you here. It wasn't the fact that there were no calls so much as when they happened. We had some questionable calls go against us whenever we would show some momentum, while they were getting away with holding and would answer. I'm not blaming the loss on the refs, but it was a backbreaker on multiple drives.

I'm also not a fan of their field. What was going on? Our players could get no traction and Hooker wasn't the only player that lost his footing on their turf, but that one cost us our best player. I know Small was slipping and sliding all over the place on some runs, as was Hyatt on some routes.

Sand. There's a lot of sand in the soil in Columbia. I spent a good bit of time on Ft Jackson. Sand gets in everything. Probably contributed to Hooker's injury.

Give it up, we officially hold the record for losing to the ugliest QB in NCAA history. Rattler looks like the ugly puppy at the pound no one will adopt. I will give him credit tho, he made multiple NFL like throws. unfortunately for him he does not get to paly our defense every week because he looks terrible against everyone else.

Holds can be called on every play on every team . We got our arses handed to us . Wasn’t the refs fault.
That's been repeated over and over. It is somewhat true. But there are things that are questionable and things that are flagrant. When a DL has beaten an OL... his whole body past the OL... and the OL is holding onto one shoulder with both hands to prevent him from getting to the QB it either needs to be called both ways or neither. Spraggins was called for holding twice on plays identical to what USCe's OG's got away with 6-8 times. They occurred right in front of the Referee each time.

Rattler was bound to have a breakout game at some point. He's not a good QB but he's got loads of talent and arm strength to beat you if he clicks. Look at Richardson against us vs everyone else. If you give a high potential guy like that time to beat you they will. Compare that to Levis where he was getting crushed. In the league, the QBs are almost all competent enough to beat you if you don't get enough pressure to rattle them.

So basically you're trying to blame the refs for an ass-kicking but trying to do so in a weird mental gymnastics way that you can act like you AREN'T actually blaming the refs for the loss.

Except you are.

They called defensive holding against Hadden, but USC was holding #20 for us

Wow, thanks for that shot... look at it again.... there were two other SC guys with their hands outside the frame of the rusher too, especially the guy in the middle tackling our guy.... those are the kind that the tv guys always say are obvious.

Read the rule and watch the entire play again.
  1. A block in the back is contact against an opponent occurring when the force of the initial contact is from behind and above the waist. When in question, the contact is at or below below the waist (see Clipping, Rule 2-5) (Rule 9-3-6) (A.R. 9-3-3-I-VII and A.R. 10-2-2-XII).
The initial contact was not in the back. The player spun away from the block and ended up getting "blocked" in the back. That's not a penalty.
Yeah. You'll almost never see a block in the back called in the tackle box. The holds are a different matter.

We got a beat down...and one can argue we got some calls that extended our drivers as well.

All in all SC without their top 2 running backs had to go to difference offense gam plan with jet sweeps and that swing pass and they gutted us along with some time pass plays.

Hard to say one person makes a difference but with Banks in that game it might have been little different...

head ref david smith was the starting quarterback from Alabama back in the eighties. He reffed one of our games earlier this year and we won, but every time he officiates one of our game there are always some shady calls/no-calls. Whole damn family went to school at bama. Win or lose, I don't want him calling our games.
I thought all officials were fat geeks who never played the game?

Got tired of watching every replay of their scores and seeing an obvious hold, or two. Really bad officiating. Like a road game @ Alabama a few years ago. Egregious.

Good teams win regardless of the refs.
A lot of fans of other teams would disagree with you. A couple well placed, drive ending, score facilitating to an opponent, and you have a game that is rigged with a predetermined outcome. The state of officiating just continues to get worse and a) not using available technology to make sure calls are correct, b) bias in officiating, and c) money, have made the outcomes of games less based on skill and performance and more on the lousy calls made by officiating. I watched one series Saturday where SC holding was not called and it hurt us a lot. It is not just college football.

If those penalties were called, it would've stopped at least 2 td drives. 63 becomes 49. We would have likely scored on those. 38 becomes 52.

Yes, the large amount of missed penalties hurt. It shouldn't have come to that, but this game would look a lot different with competent officiating.

A few missed holding calls were the least of our problems Saturday
I agree. Wasn't the reason we lost... That's when coaches earn their money. They should countered that in some way that they didn't.. You have to mix something up there to change the momentum. We were so passive it looked fixed to me.

I don't understand why the coaches don't get together and review each other's games to see what the collective group of coaches are finding. Officiating is like a black hole where nobody cares and key people shut the film vault and say take it or leave it. Where are the "after game" reviews? IMHO more and more people are going to wake up and push for some accountability. When that demand for accountability shows a huge number, like 50% of calls were blatantly obvious, missed, and changed the outcome of the game, then maybe key players will call for change.
