Southern Miss to the Sun Belt

The sad thing is how often it has to be used. Especially when it was stated in the POST DIRECTLY ABOVE YOURS.

So…

Thanks Jimmy
There have been posts in this thread and another thread referencing reports of ODU and other schools going to Sunbelt. The reason I linked this tweet was because it is the ODU athletics Twitter account So I guess since your post wasn't the first mentioning the move I guess I should say...

THANKS JIMMY

Unlike a lot of things in the past 5-6 years, the ODU Athletics Dept is really out in front of this. I got emails about it, my buddy that actually buys our annual season tickets even got an email from the school president. Hopefully this a sign of good things to come.

Did Jacksonville St just join the Atlantic Sun for the sole purpose of that conference adding football? Same with Sam Houston in the WAC?

I'm not a conference traditionalist by any means, but some of this stuff is just crazy.

I find it interesting that none of the decent conferences are interested in Liberty. The Sun Belt is choosing to go thru the messy process of bringing in James Madison from FCS in order to have a second team in Virginia. But Liberty is right there and wouldn't require the transition period. Liberty's only FBS invite has come from the completely decimated Conference USA, where they can be excited about regular trips to Las Cruces, NM and Ruston, LA.

Liberty attempted to join CUSA and the Sun Belt four years ago by trying to buy themselves in. The member schools said no and… you might want to sit down for this shocking information… Falwell Jr didn’t take it too well publicly.

I feel for Conference USA. But they have no grant of rights, so they have absolutely no bargaining power.

I don’t. Being in the conference has been a giant sh** show from day one. The basketball conference is absolutely embarrassing

The future of the have nots lies in compact conferences where you can get your non revenue generating teams to away games with short van/bus rides that will, at most, only require one overnight stay, and you can stoke up natural rivalries. Not sure why anyone thinks it’s a good idea be in a non P5 conference where you’re gonna have to truck cross country, tennis, and soccer teams from Virginia to Texas.

Anyone following the stories of ODU, Marshall and Southern Miss telling CUSA to F off and they’re leaving after this year?

ODU granted temporary injunction against Conference USA | WAVY.com

Marshall granted restraining order against Conference USA

The Sun Belt has set up the 2022 football season as if all four schools are already members
I’ve been impressed with the Sunbelt conference the last few years. They’ve done a good job of building their brand, adding decent teams, and moving up in the world. They’ve chased down and passed CUSA and I think they’ll be passing some other conferences too.

Great move for Southern Mississippi and the Sun Belt conference will be tougher with the new additions.

At the least. Sun Belt is a much better name than Conference USA. C-USA sounds like they forgot to come up with a name and right before the press conference they looked around and saw the American flag and said "We are Conference....uh.....OH.....Conference USA! Yep that's our name!"
