After the game last night I think we are definitely on the way. We should win out (including bowl win) and go into 2016 with a legitimate chance at East and the SECCG.

Great recruiting has got us to be competitive but we are still young and shallow in many positions.

Question: Is the current class mainly filling needs in line of scrimmage type positions? This current class does not seem to have the star power as the previous 2 (so far).

Is this by design (trench positions) or is this class just not as good as the previous 2?

What does this mean for chances of success for 2016 and beyond?

It's still early. A lot of big time commits will be undecided until late.

Well, we don't have as many spots as before so we'll have a smaller class. Butch and Boys are looking at all positions trying to get some O and D lineman, secondary, RB, QB. Us not putting away these games this season will probably hurt us...wouldn't doubt it...:hi:

GO VOLS!

Our last two classes were massive, it makes sense for this one to be a bit smaller and less prominent.

Not worried, just not hearing about how awesome it is, like the last 2.

Currently #17 on Rivals, 7th in the SEC, 17 current commits.

It's not nearly as good as the last two right now. Still a lot of top recruits/targets like Nigel Warrior (safety), Mecole Hardman and Kyle Davis (WRs) still uncommitted that we're after.

I will say that this class has been a bit confusing...limited numbers dictated that the staff be very selective with which commitments they took....but they've not been very selective. A few head scratchers thus far, but fortunately, it's only October.

Thanks, this is the kind of info I was looking for. Kentucky has a class ranked higher than ours is right now. I don't like that one bit. Hope we make it into the top 10 by signing day.

Some of those will look around if higher profile players want to come to Tennessee. It is a tough business to cut commits loose but they will not turn away a five star to keep a 2.

I think that there will be some quality players emerge from the upcoming winter workouts and Spring practices. Hopefully all will get a legitimate chance to compete and I foresee some surprises coming out of the LB unit.

The class may be smaller but needs to be full of difference makers. Bama; LSU etc will have top classes again. We can't afford to miss to take a class off

Agree. Things are still fluid. Just surprised at a few of the lower-ranked recruits that we chose to accept a commitment from early on. But like you say, still a lot of movement likely in order to accept commitments from 4 and 5 star players we're still after. If I were betting, I'd say we finish top 10-12

The small class hurts us in the rankings and yes, we've "accepted" commitments that seem strange, but I honestly think there's a plan behind that. With 17 committed, I think 4-5 of those will later be asked to look elsewhere as we'll have higher ranked guys wanting to commit. Going into NSD, I think we'll be holding 2-3 spots for "big fish" guys that'll be committing that day. We should finish in the top 10, but not as high as the last two years.

100%.....we can't miss on a class right now, can't fall further behind the elite programs, can't let Florida get an edge in talent. I'm gonna get dinged, but I don't care....we have a decided disadvantage on the sideline on game days right now...need as much talent as we can possibly get to overcome him.

I wish that I could recall the name of this particular recruiting analyst, but I don't. In any event, he speculated that turnover within the ranks of prospects currently committed for our 2016 class could number anywhere from 7-9, depending on how the recruitment of more highly coveted, but uncommitted, prospects play out in the future.

I don't know where this small class stuff is coming from. I bet we end up signing 25ish. Not 30 like the last couple but still a decent size class. I know we'll be up against the 85 but there is always attrition. As far as rankings, I think that rivals only counts your highest 20 anyway. Not sure of the others.

I expect another top 10 class when it's all said and done. If not we should be slightly worried as our biggest competitors are virtually never out of the top 10 and Bama is always top 5. If you're not continually recruiting at the highest level, you're going backwards IMO.

We will have attrition and JRs leave early. I'd say we sign 18-23

Attrition will primarily depend on Azzani staying or going.

Only Jrs I see possibly leaving is Cam and JRM. And JRM is a bit of a stretch.

No idea about Maggit and the 6th year.

I don't know if we will make it to 25, but the projected "cap" on this class has already gone up from ca. 17 to 20. Depending on the number of December graduates and additional attrition, I could certainly see this class topping out at 22-23 signees. I also expect another top 10 class ultimately. The exact content of that class is still in considerable flux and, quite frankly, I would expect to see a number of "upgrades," depending on how the recruitment of more highly coveted, but uncommitted, prospects play out in the future. This would be aided considerably by winning out, plus a bowl victory, for a 9-4 final record, which should put us around 17-20 in the final polls.

There are definitely things this coaching staff can be criticized over, recruiting is note one of them. No worries about recruiting. Because of the smaller class this year, it should be expected that it will not be as highly ranked as the last two.

It's also entirely possible that CBJ and staff are better at determining who fits their need than the staff of 247. Fils-Amie (?) was a "Who?" guy when he committed. Now it's becoming clear that he has the potential to be an amazing player. Personally, I put more stock in early reviews by our staff than by journalists.

We might still get a top 10 class. We're in on 3 5 star guys as well as a couple of high 4 stars. We could also see some of our current commits get bumps.

Remember at this time last year no one thought we'd get Phillips or Richmond. Both 5 stars. And guys like Kirkland and Martin committed in December.

Lotta time left. A 8-4 finish plus a bowl win will net us a top 10 class.

I agree it can still happen. My point is, even if it doesnt, it wouldnt surprise me nor would I be worried.

I think some of our guys are going to get bumps. CFA will definitely get bumped up. I am just not worried about recruiting at all.

I don't think you can medically redshirt twice but not sure?
