Spelling and punctuation in posts.

Are spelling and punctuation important when posting a message?

Blatant disregard for grammar indicates you don't respect the people that are going to read your post enough to write it correctly and you don't respect yourself enough to care how others perceive you.

. . . Plus LIO might yell at you.

....was that a run on sentence??

I agree, milo. An occasional period or capital letter has never killed anyone. ( I don't think they have, anyway.)

The only problem that I have with bad spelling is that I immediately think that I am talking to a 3 year old!

That's what some people don't understand. None of us can see each other, so if your posts read like you just fell off a turnip truck, other people immediately get a mental image of Gomer Pyle every time they see your name next to a post (that is unless you post for 2 months with a picture of Ric Flair next to your name).

Now if your spelling and grammar were bad on top of the Ric Flair, I would worry. You however, balanced it out nicely!

You have captured my mental image precisely. There are about 5 guys that post in here that I'm sure look just like that.

I don't want ANYONE to feel like they shouldn't post. All I ask is just make it as painless as possible.

i mispell words all the time and post in fragments and runons all the time ..... my problem is my brain works faster than my fingers and i can't type either.... and when i proof read something lots of times i read it in my mind the correct way even if its not typed in correctly... and besides all this LIO has to have something to correct to keep her in practice for class. I apologize for all my past transgressions and any future ones ( i'm sure there will be plenty)

as far as mental pictures go ... GAVol in my mind you look like Ric Flair with orange spandex of course... and LIO I always picture Helen Crump smacking Ernest T Bass on the hand with a ruler when I read your posts, and of course Milo was the only one brave enough to give us a picture so everytime I see his post thats my image....and OWB you remind me of a fellow who lived in my freshman dorm we called "GOOF" I don't know why(no disrespect, he was a serious student with a full ride scholarship he just got a little crazy when he got on the "hops") as for me I look just like my avatar.

Hey Junior, anyone who spends as much time post-padding as you PROBABLY should avoid the black leotards.

There, everyone. . . .how's THAT for a mental picture!

Oh, on the topic. . . . nobody's asking for an English paper, but a close approximation of spelling, avoidance of the "words" 2, 4, and u, and an occasional period or paragraph break makes a post much more readable (and gives it the appearance of "knowledgable" or well-thought).
