Only a 2 star but his video is rather impressive. Plus he has nice size. Waiting to hear back from Monte and if we want him, he'll more than likely commit. UNC, Clemson and UT are his final 3.

Thanks for posting this. He looks like a good prospect. Good size, speed, and IQ! :good!:

"(Tennessee) called a week ago," Shuey said. "They told me they were interested, but they wanted to let coach (Monte) Kiffin take a look at my film and evaluate me. They told me that would call me back once he had done that. I hope to hear from coach Kiffin soon."

"I have narrowed it down to Clemson, UNC, and Tennessee," Shuey said. "I'm really undecided. I don't have favorite."

he was supposed to have really impressed that the Shrine Bowl

He was dominant in the Shrine Bowl practices. He fits the mold of a Coach O DE too. Very impressive player. I'd say Clemson and UT have the best shot at him.

Nobody's stock rose nearly as much as Spencer Shuey during the course of the week at the Shrine Bowl, and the eventual defensive MVP had the first half of a lifetime until a broken thumb hurt his production. Here are his highlights from the game.

Shuey, who rushed for 1,250 yards and 14 touchdowns as a fullback as a senior and had 87 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, is already seeing increased attention since his strong performance.

I would love to go to Clemson," Shuey said. "That'd probably be my No. 1 pick if they'd offer me. I would love for NC State or Wake Forest or Carolina or any of those ACC schools to come into the picture.

sounds like a sneeky sleeper type. also sounds like he prefers the weaker competition in the ACC.

I'm just saying. Usually thats who they look at the most. Never said he will go to an ACC school because of where he lives.

He looks like he'd be a solid DE. Who was he going up against in the Shrine Bowl? Was it any major recruit?

He played LB in the Shrine bowl. He had something like 8 tackles in the first Quarter before he broke his thumb. The Shrine Bowl also always has some really good talent in it.

South Mecklenburg High linebacker/fullback Spencer Shuey, who has seen his college recruitment increase dramatically since an outstanding performance in the Shrine Bowl, has set up tentative visits with some of his new suitors. He expects to visit Clemson Jan. 9, North Carolina Jan.16 and Tennessee or Illinois Jan. 23, according to his father.

In the article on VQ it talked about him wanting to get a visit scheduled to Tennessee. Does anyone know if that has been set up. It looks like he is a good pickup if we can land him. I really like kids like this who are underated then blow up at the all star games. You never really know but it sounds like the kid really plays well under pressure and likes to prove himself. Those kind of kids usually turn into good players.

I am the opposite. One all star game does not make someone a good prospect. The body of work is more important. Monte is smart to review the film. If this guy was really good, other schools, with a staff in place, would have offered him already.

just because he doesn't have any offers from big time schools doesn't mean he isn't good. Players that don't attend camps won't get as much exposure as others and his coach might not be getting his name out there. Everyone seems to agree that Daniel West will be good and we were his only big offer.
