Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7th, 2017)

I'm glad I don't go to the theaters you guys do. I only go to the matinee's and the local theater I go to only charges $5.00 and a Large popcorn is $4.75.

Of course its old school auditorium style seating.

That was a little bit of an exaggeration. I think it was more like 12.50 for a coke and nacho combo

This one will be at my local theater. I'll hit up the matinee for 5 bucks and can get 2 large cokes and a large popcorn for 10 bucks with free refills. It's a win/win for me

Are you the movie guy that calls Phil Williams' show?

It was in all Spider-Man titles for about a year in the mid 2000s. It's known as the Iron Spider story and took place just before Civil War.

Then there was also a story line that took place later in which Peter gets a job at a tech company where he ends up developing suits and gadgets designed to take on specific villains. That eventually leads into today where he has his own tech company and makes gadgets for himself.

I like the mid to late 90s spider man. He didnt need any toys he just kicked ass.

I think that's going to be a point in the movie. He doesn't need the gadgets.

Speculation based on the trailers
Stark gave him the suit in Civil War. Tells him to keep it. He plays with the gadgets and gets over confident which lead him to cause the battle with Vulture where the ferry is blasted in half. Iron Man comes to help save the ferry and tells Peter he can't keep the suit because he isn't being responsible with it. Spidey has to beat Vulture in his home made suit. Stark gives him another suit without the gadgets. The end.

I would kill to see the "Kravens Last Hunt" story made into a movie. My absolute favorite.

Reported spoiler about one of the credit scenes:

Apparently they set up the Sinister Six movie.

Spider-Man: Homecoming - 4/5

Full disclosure I really liked the Amazing Spider-Man films especially the first one as I thought it was better than the first Toby Maguire film. The second one well you take out the Jamie Fox character and it's a pretty good film.

Now with that being said I think Tom Holland is the best Peter Parker we have ever seen on film. He is believable as a high schooler. I don't know if he is the best Spider-Man we have seen yet but he may end up being that eventually.

I really liked the interactions between Peter and his friend but do we have to have a Star Wars reference in ever Marvel film now?

I would rate higher but was not a fan of the reveal toward the end of who one of the characters supposedly is. Why not just make them a new character?

Micheal Keaton was awesome as the bad guy.

Gonna be honest..... wasn't my favorite.

The first hour or so feels like it's going a million miles an hour. After a short while I really felt like it needed to slow its pace dramatically. Fast dialogue - fast dialogue - explosion - actions scene - more fast dialogue - more action. Pretty poor pacing for the entire first hour IMO. And his friend/sidekick is nothing short of terribly annoying. His repeated attempts at humor fall flat over and over again. The action/humor of this movie all just feels a bit "slapstick"

It makes a pretty strong turnaround in the second hour. It slows a bit, gives Peter Parker a little time to develop, then slowly introduces you into a bit more action.

It definitely has its bright points. Tom Holland really does make a great Spider Man. Keaton is always good. Tony Stark/ Iron Man is great, but is in the movie a lot less than I thought he would be.

Ultimately, this felt like a kiddie movie. Pretty shallow storyline, went more for the "Ooooh's and Ahhhh's" than developing a new character in the MCU. Overall I just feel like the timing was bad here. At this point in the world Captain America is a wanted criminal, the Accords have caused a massive division among The Avengers. I don't think a kid-oriented popcorn summer blockbuster fits well in the MCU right now.

In all fairness, I did see Wonder Woman like 2 weeks ago. That's a tough act to follow. I would put this near the bottom of the MCU movies. Go see it, its a fun movie, but I think it will be forgotten sooner than later.

Best Spiderman film since the first two Sam Raimi movies. Possibly even better.

The Vulture has to be one of the best villains in the MCU so far. Keeton was awesome in this movie.
