Sports experiences before you die

I've done only 4 of those things but pretty much none of those things would be on my list anyway.

I've got 11 of them . . . and I disagree about the Olympics. I was in Atlanta in '96 and it just doesn't get much better than watching the flag get raised at the medal ceremony and the pure emotion when the Star Spangled Banner starts playing. Seeing an American gold medal ceremony is easily the most emotional moment I've ever witnessed live . . . and I was in the stadium the night the Braves won the World Series.

49. Lady Vols game (winter, Knoxville, Tenn.). Anyone who thinks men won't get excited about women's sports needs to take in a Lady Vols game. When Pat Summitt takes command, the Vols go on a run and the band starts playing "Rocky Top," there is no better atmosphere for basketball -- men's or women's.
The dumbest thing I have ever read.

"no better atmosphere for basketball-- men or women's." He obviouslt hasn't been to a UT men's BB game the past two seasons.

So you would rate that number 1 on the list of 11 you have done? GAVol?

I think so. I just edited the post to clarify that. It's just a different sort of experience . . . though I can see why the whole Olympics thing might be considered overrated. Parts of it are no fun at all.

So was I. That might rank #2 on the all-time greatest sports experiences list, behind a certain Fiesta Bowl.

I also attended the Atlanta Olympics, and it was a very good experience. That being said, I'm not sure I would ever go out of my way to attend another.

As for the original list, I agree with the Derby, a BCS bowl game (although I haven't seen the Rose,) and the Kentucky Highschool Basketball tournament for the purists (we still have no classes, so David does play Goliath.)

I would like to see a Superbowl, a Final Four, and a golf Major (I plan on attending the '08 Ryder Cup at Valhalla, which may or may not be just as good,) and a boxing championship fight if there are ever any boxing championships worth watching anymore. As for everything else on the list from armwrestling to pond hockey, they rate somewhere between take-it-or-leave-it and faking appendicitis so I don't have to go.

My number one was the December 2001 Army Navy game. It was obviously shortly after 9/11 and the atmosphere was amazing. W got the biggest ovation you could ever imagine, Apache helicopters brought in the game ball, and Norman Schwarzkopf did a rendition of a famous MacArthur speech at the half. I've been to many large sporting events, but none matched the atmosphere at the Vet that day.

That would be sweet.

Orlando Magic vs. Houston Rockets Championship

I haven't seen the championship, but I have seen the Eastern Conference Finals on two different occasions (Celtics/Pistons in 87 or 88, Bulls/Knicks in '93.) Both experiences were great, mainly because of the star power involved, but I really have a hard time getting excited about the NBA anymore.

Any Tenn/Fla we won.

Sadly, I could not attend the '98 game because of a wedding, and had to watch it on TV. That is probably the #1 UT game in my lifetime that I wish I could have attended.

Best UT events I have seen were the '97 Florida and Arky games.

I have seen 2 NBA playoff games that were awesome ( Bulls vs. Sixers at The Spectrum)

The best NFL game was a Colts Dolphins game Marino's last season. He threw the best ball I've ever seen.

Seeing the Yankess in NYC was awesome HOWEVER I'm going back Aug. 4 and got free tickets 10 rows up from home plate and free passes to their VIP restaurant on the first level. So after that game that will probably be my favorite sporting event.

The best so far though was sitting right behind the Celtics bench in The Palace of Auburn Hills during a Piston's game. It was amazing and I scalped the tickets for $45. We became friends with the usher and after the game he let us walk on the court and go through the player's tunnel!

Things I must/will do:

1. SEC Championship with UT playing
2. National championship hopefully with UT (this is 2nd because it might not happen for another 50 years.)
3. Yanks/Sox game at Fenway
4. Wrigley Field
5. Visit every MLB stadium
6. Go to a football game at every SEC school
7.Go to a Colts playoff game

Didn't include SB b/c I won't be going unless someone gets me cheap tickets.

I've done 5. I almost made 6 - but he listed Pakistan-India cricket, not Pakistan-India field hockey (still...that was a pretty crazy game). I haven't made a Sox-Yankees game yet...but that is on the top of my list of things to do before I leave Boston (we'll see if I can actually pull it off though).

I've been to a little league game and I've driven the Nurburgring several times in Project Gotham 2 and Forza. So does that count as 1 or 2?

This guy made a really bad list. UFC landed directly in front of NCAA Women's Volleyball match. What the f***?

I've never been to the Rose Bowl, but I did watch UT play UCLA in the Rose Bowl a couple of times. That facility is a dump.
