We are already on the cusp if a bit of a backlash against football due to the concussion issue. Now, with FSU squarely in the big game, the pink elephant in the room is Winston. Charged or not there's going to be criticism over the claim of a cover up. If the victim goes fully public there's a potential here for the whole football players get coddled debate.

Imagine someone like Gloria Allred taking this on.

This might all fade away. But don't be surprised if this leads to a major discussion about the college football culture, favoritism, academics, etc.

sounds like someone's team got whooped by FSU :)

I'm surprised it was as close as it was.

But the story is now going to turn to whether the cops tried to talk her out of the report and then the state attorney sat on it so they could keep winning and make it to the game.

that's been the story all along - I don't see that changing.

We'll have another Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State vs SEC West runner-up Bama debate on our hands if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma, Mich. State beats Ohio State, and Duke beats FSU. If Oklahoma State loses, then replace them with Baylor.

If someone was raped and FSU and cops tried to cover it up then I hope everyone involved gets what they deserve.

I actually agree with LG…a little. I had this discussion on Saturday night with Beech and a UK fan. Florida State has been ballsy continuing to play Winston. If they don't have an ace in the hole related to the case, the blowback against FSU should be devastating. At the very least it feels like Jimbo has rolled the dice here.

If it is determined that that the state sat on the case, it will reflect poorly on the state of Florida as well.

On the other hand, innocent until proven guilty should also hold some meaning here.

It's basically the same situation as Penn State. Penn State was crucified for more or less dragging their feet. If FSU had any morals they would sit Winston until this is resolved.

Don't you think there has to be a reason (other than the NC) that the program doesn't appear to be overly concerned?

Certainly it is possible that they are being told that no charges will be filed. But that possibility raises its own host of questions, doesn't it?

Or it could be eventually be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that there was a prior relationship, and that everything was consensual.

If he is brought to trial, and eventually loses, it will be a big problem for FSU and local law enforcement/DA. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Even if they had a prior relationship, that would not prove that this encounter was consensual. Surely you realize that.

And I've been asking my FSU friends about that claim (that they had a prior relationship) since it has been awhile and I would have expected that proof to be out there. Turns out that's just someone trying to make the claim to defend Winston and there in fact is no proof of that.

You already know more than I do about the case….and a prior relationship certainly doesn't prove anything, but it certainly can help the defense.

If I was a high profile athlete and wanted a quickie, I would pay a professional to do it….for this very reason.

Didn't realize the accused has to prove their innocence. I guess you're the expert, though.

Why is it immoral to keep playing a QB that has not been charged with a crime?

Once/if the charges come, the questions will follow. Though I agree with you in principle, I think there is some risk involved for the University.
