Wasn't aware that he had.
I actually agree with LG a little. I had this discussion on Saturday night with Beech and a UK fan. Florida State has been ballsy continuing to play Winston. If they don't have an ace in the hole related to the case, the blowback against FSU should be devastating. At the very least it feels like Jimbo has rolled the dice here.
If it is determined that that the state sat on the case, it will reflect poorly on the state of Florida as well.
On the other hand, innocent until proven guilty should also hold some meaning here.
Even if they had a prior relationship, that would not prove that this encounter was consensual. Surely you realize that.
And I've been asking my FSU friends about that claim (that they had a prior relationship) since it has been awhile and I would have expected that proof to be out there. Turns out that's just someone trying to make the claim to defend Winston and there in fact is no proof of that.
If he's guilty and goes to jail will that satisfy you LG?
Satisfy me? That's not the issue. If he did it and is convicted with due process then he should be punished. But it's not a question of it being satisfying to anyone.
The real problem I have is the claim by the victim that an FSU-friendly police department delayed and delayed and tried to talk her out of pursuing it.
There may be nothing to it. Since they now admit there was sex, I'm going to assume the key evidence is whether on physical exam she showed signs of physical force. If so, and that was known from the start, then one has to question why it took so long. If not, then I confess I don't get why it wouldn't already be resolved. Very strange situation.
We are already on the cusp if a bit of a backlash against football due to the concussion issue. Now, with FSU squarely in the big game, the pink elephant in the room is Winston. Charged or not there's going to be criticism over the claim of a cover up. If the victim goes fully public there's a potential here for the whole football players get coddled debate.
Imagine someone like Gloria Allred taking this on.
This might all fade away. But don't be surprised if this leads to a major discussion about the college football culture, favoritism, academics, etc.
Yeah, but it's been awhile since we knew going into the championship game that the star player for the number one team was accused of a serious crime.
