Spring Ball: Who will get the reps?

Derrick Brodus is already a Tennessee legend in my book.

He comes off the frat couch to kick field goals for Tennessee. Absolutely awesome. With a police escort.

This is true, just by the simple fact that people will remember, and be talking about that scenario for years and years to come.

Does it really matter who was ahead on the depth chart last season? CBJ said the QB job was wide open so last years depth chart is irrelevant. For all we know Peterman could become the starter.

I've said before that I thought the starter next year will be RF. I get the impression that CBJ wants it to be him. If it turns out to be Worley or Dobbs I will support both. Whoever it happens to be I will laud him when he plays good/well. I will criticize him when he plays bad. I just want us to win games and restore the Volunteer tradition.

Coach Speak 101:

Rule #10
When asked in an interview about a player, always praise and speak about a positive attribute about them.
.

**In the last month Butch has praised both Dobbs and Ferguson in interviews. When asked specifically about one player he always addresses the question on that player. Of course he likes both QBs. Dobbs is way ahead of his years. Ferguson has a rifle of an arm. Dobbs has gained muscle through S&C program. blah blah blah blah.

Guess what a player who knows a lot may not be the best QB if he can't throw. A player who can throw may not be good if he doesn't know a lot.

Rule #11
Always say the competition is wide open.

Everyone keeps trying to read the tea leaves!

And if you think that it all hinges on the spring game, remember the horrible stats from Tyler Bray about 2-3 years ago in the spring game. He was like 5 of 20 or something like that.

For me personally I do hope the competition stays close until the fall. The cream will rise to the top.

#1 Brick by Brick
#2 It's a team effort (duh!, it's not a foot race)
#3 Our competition is very good this weekend (doesn't matter if you are playing the paraplegic school for the blind, ever heard a coach say, "yep our competition this weekend is not a good football team"
#4 We are going to play for 60 minutes (duh!)
#5 I have to go back and watch the tape (Phil Fulmer)
#6 Were going back to the fundamentals of blocking and tackling (usually said when your team looks inept during a loss)

Things not to say
#1 We are learning 'shower discipline'
#2 If you don't go to Tennessee you will end up pumping gas (cause if you go to Tennessee you may get arrested at the Pilot)
#3 Our guys Saturday looked like the Nazis in WWII.
#4 I caught Urban Meyer in a recruiting violation.

Putting two and two together tells you that ferguson was ahead of dobbs

You can't do that.
Dobbs = 1 person
Ferguson = 1 person
-------------------
Dobbs + Ferguson = 2 people.

They don't become two until counted together.
Besides that, on the 2013 depth chart they were often listed as co-3rd string. Except in the below September chart where Dobbs leapfrogs Ferguson.
College Player Database - Depth Chart
But I don't really care because the real point of my post is just to jerk your chain about the math. :)

Dobbs had better completion percentage than Worley at 59.5% and played like a freshman who started against #1 defense in the country with no play makers around him. Auburn game he had absolutely no help around him.

All talk about who will start is nice fan fodder and will make for a bunch of threads to keep us entertained. Keep perspective here. With 18-19 year old kids very difficult to predict development. None of us truly knows but let's not be throwing a freshman quarterback under the bus who was put in a difficult position. Support everyone and wish for healthy competition before anointing someone who we know very little about.

This is why we have 4 quarterbacks. Very unpredictable.
Dobbs threw a very nice ball but to be fair he didn't face the same competition or problems that Worley did. The WR's were at least somewhat seasoned by the time he started. He also had 5 INT's before getting 2 TD's and another INT vs UK.

Funny that you seem to protest throwing Dobbs under the bus... but have little hesitation about doing it to Worley in spite of how bad the WR's were due to inexperience early in the season.

I personally hope a starter is named leaving spring so that guy and the WR's can get more of the summer reps together- especially if it isn't Worley. I really don't want to see another season where they're in the 5th week before they get comfortable.

Amen.
I want someone, anyone to step up and be the clear cut #1 QB coming out of Spring. As I've stated before, if we are still searching for that guy a week or two before the season, or god forbid after the season begins we are in trouble.

All will get some but Dobbs will separate from the pack.
GO VOLS!

Not sure that happens. Hopefully Fergy is as good as advertised and takes command of the offense. Dobbs arm strength is concerning. It may have improved but Riley has been said to have the best arm and most upside. I just want us to win and hope Fergs, Dobbs or Peterman win it out of Spring. Hzave very little confidence in Worley and his lack of an arm will kill us in the deep passes. With the speed we have at WR those guys have got to get the ball. Jmo but holding out hope on Riley.

Also, I think Palardy took a quantum leap in his game thanks to the Brodus wake-up call.

First off. Brodus having a police escort isn't a huge deal. We've already had some players this year get a police escort. :whistling: :eek:lol:

And I've heard a rumor from a friend of mine that had a girlfriend that new a girl that talked to Peyton when he was here and he said the QB for 2014 would be Rilenosh Furgwordobbs.
