Spurrier announces Connor Shaw as the starter vs. Kentucky

Yeah, I knew he was a Katrina evacuee. I never knew the particulars of how he wound up at Gainesville. Convenient for them. I was a sophomore when he was a senior.

was playing basketball at the First Baptist gym (I think, maybe the Y) and the Gainesville coaches just happened to be there at the exact same time. What a coincidence. The rest is history. High school recruiting at it's finest.

It won't last long. If Connor Shaw was Carolina's best qb he'd already be playing. They'll let him almost lose to Kentucky then Garcia will be back in there.

UK will struggle to break 10 points. It is a non-issue.

Id be willing to bet Kentucky finds a way to win and Joker gets a huge win. Ive seen Shaw play not dont have much confidence.

It's not a home game, therefore this isn't the one game Kentucky has each year where they randomly pull off a decent upset at home and then lose to Vandy the next week.

Not surprised. Kentucky would for sure be the team I'd want to try new things with though.

I'll take that bet anyday. I say SC wins by at least 21. Give the ball to Lattimore 35 times and try the halfback pass 6 times = SC scores 35 points on Ky. Shaw wouldn't have to pass more than a dozen times.

The only thing he's doing by starting Shaw is showing Garcia who his daddy still is. Three straight SEC road games and then Florida and Clemson at home. He'll be back on the bench by halftime in Starksville.

Not really. Garcia is awful. He has four touchdowns and nine interceptions on the year. Spurrier had to try Shaw at some point.

Its been mentioned that Spurrier's treatment of players in the media and at practices might be having an adverse affect and that he may have destroyed his QB's confidence as well as started the process of losing his team. Do you think this might be the case?

It's possible. Garcia appears to be a bit of a head case. I was listening to 107.5 The Game at lunch, and they say Garcia plays nothing like he practices. Who knows.

Prediction from a CFB blog...

Kentucky at South Carolina

Speaking of Stephen Garcia, he'll have a standing room only, VIP sideline view for Kentucky...and he totally earned it. You wonder what took Coach Spurrier so long. I remember when the ole ball coach used to bench Jesse Palmer for settling on an 18-yard corner route completion to Nafis Karim instead of throwing deep to Taylor Jacobs. You also wonder if Garcia will have enough time to wipe queso dip out of his beard and put his pants back on if Shaw screws up badly enough for Spurrier to switch back. It's a non-issue this week.

Cocks - 37
Wildcats - 10

USC just has to score 11. We've proven that 10 points is about all we can get per game.
