Spurrier proposes pay for play idea at SEC meeting

“It would be 70 guys, $300 a game. That's only $21,000 a game. I doubt it will get passed. But as coaches in the SEC, we make all that money. That's just something I think we need to get out there. Seven coaches said they'd be willing to pay it.”

I see nothing wrong with this idea.

Heard about this on the way to work here in MEM today.

Said Saban, Muschamp, Dooley, and one or two other coaches (can't remember) supported this idea.

This was already suggested within the Big 10. One big problem, imo, is that smaller/weaker conferences wouldn't be financially able to offer similar "payments" so it would become another issue between BCS schools and non-BCS schools.

So?

Won't happen. I don't really agree with it. Props to Spurrier on proposing to put the payments above the table instead of under it though.

And when UF, and Bama offer $301 per you'll feel the same way.

Come on buddy, you know better.

It has to be agreed upon by everyone in the conference (I'm talking about the price). If there is evidence that a school is giving extra benefits, it will be handled in the same manner as it is now. Relax.

The way its being handled now is a joke.

"Give me liberty or give me death."

Ohio sucks U outta have the same penalty as the Pony Express. The NCAA is a farce at this juncture.

If you cheat now, you should be torched. It's the only way to solve it. That includes your school, my school, and any cow college along the Brazos River.

You wanna fix it? Fine. Torch the place.

Let's not hand out checks to make it easier for the crooks to gain a leg up.

They slammed USC, and they're getting ready to slam tOSU. I'd say they are at least trying.

I wish they would have done more to USC, but I'm just glad the NCAA is acting like they give half of a damn.

And as for Tennessee? Auburn?

If you want it right, give them the same. Otherwise you have an apology owed.

Let's not sit and thump our chests about the severity of infractions. If you cheat, your program should suffer.

aTm included.

This is not some holier than thou escapade I'm on. It's the truth. If you want to fix it, let's need feed into it by paying players. It will only amplify what we all scoff at when it happens at other programs.

Tax their ass and be done with it.

What do they have on Tennessee?

Or Auburn, for that matter.

There is certainly a lot of smoke coming from The Plains, but until they get their hands on some tangible evidence, it is going to be hard for them to do much to The Barn.

Give me a break. Tennessee shouldn't get hit as hard as OSU because Reaves screwed up.

Bruce f-ing Pearl cheated.
Lane f-ing Kiffin cheated.

They f'd up a program I support and set it back several years. That's not cool with me.

I like to see the Vols be successful. They f'd that up for me. And when the hammer comes down, which it will, it'll be detrimental to a school I support.

In that case, why bother with minor violations? Let's just write the players 100,000 checks if all violations are the same.

The punishment should be in proportion with the penalty. For example, Auburn gets busted for simulating a gameday experience. They should not receive the death penalty for this.

Not really. Pay them $300 a game but they have to pay for their tuition, books, room and board, etc.... Just a transfer from scholarship money to stipend money.

They'd probably end up paying them bonuses for things like going to class or turning in homework.

That's even worse. You think a kid is going to go to a Vandy over a Tennessee when they won't even be put on scholarship?
