Squirrel White Appreciation

That catch in the Carolina game where the DB was all over him committing egregious PI was one of the best catches I've seen in a long time. Also, WTH with the officiating in our games so far? I guess they have to overcome the officials too now.

^ that description is not exactly accurate (watch the little :07 clip provided by OP -- ball was underthrown and both players are watching the ball / or, receiver and defender overran the ball if that's how one wants to view it). It was a great catch for sure.

I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this in separate thread, but why didn’t the ref near the catch not throw his flag for PI? I was thinking he was waiting to see if White made the catch, but I believe they’re taught to call penalty and sort it out afterwards. So, leads me to believe he didn’t think it was PI. Hard to believe!

Just wait until Tuscaloosa. It will be brutal.

You can see the ref initially grab the flag only to disregard because the ball was caught. There are already too many commercials, last thing we need are arbitrary penalties - they are undesirable and slow the games down

Yeah. Seemed plain as day on the live broadcast. Pretty clear PI and they were holding a good bit throughout the first half as well along the line of scrimmage.

The Db's hand is on Squirrels helmet and facemask, literally pushing his head up/back so all you can see is his orange chinstrap. I'm not even sure how he caught it, and when he was asked that question, he literally said "I don't know".

I will state it again.... The official did what was best for UT and the game by not throwing the flag. There was no pause in the game for USCjr to regroup. He saw the catch and immediately went to spot the ball for play. I'm one of the first to yell at the zebras for poor calls, but in this case I like he kept the flag in his pocket..... had Squirrel dropped the ball and no flag come out, I might have pulled out a mustard bottle.....

Some officials will let you do anything you want once you turn your head --- then it's just 2 guys fighting for the football. Not sure how refs are getting schooled on this or the NCAA official position, but this is how it seems.

If it's PI you throw the flag. Glad Squirrel caught the ball but just don't understand why we didn't get the call on top of it that's all. And it's one thing if that was the only horrible no-call in the game.

We'll never know if the official would've thrown the flag if the catch had not been complete, but I know that we ran two play, and kicked the extra point before the official would have sorted out that CJH would have declined the penalty - we'd have lost 35 yards, PI is 15 yards from previous spot, catch was 50 yards.
In this case it benefited UT him not throwing the flag....

I don't believe he would have thrown the flag' if Squirrel missed, I've seen refs hesitate then the plays over and he is just too dumbfounded and doesn't react. Actually, a lot are too old to follow the game and it's too fast for them. It's all they can do to keep up much less watch for details he's huffing and puffing' This ref looked like what did I see (i have no idea). The refs now are bailed out on a lot of reviewable calls and IMO it has made them as about as wishy washy as I've seen in college football. The number of holds on Pearce and Ty Baron were ridiculous to expand.

He, Sampson, and Seldon could see a bigger role moving forward.... they are SEC level Playmakers, and I hope they are able to get on the field more.
