Personally i don't, but i live in CHarlotte, so it's getting talked about....a little. the folks in Raleigh are real excited and rightfully so, but i have serious doubts as to whether or not folks out side those respective cities care one way or the other about the SC this year.

I did hear though, that for game one the other night, the ratings only indicate that only about 600,000 people or so actaull watched game 1 on the TV.

Part of it could be apathy toward the league and the other is that the games are broadcast on OLN....i never even heard of OLN before now?

Sounds like the NHL has a serious marketing problem, in that there is none done at all.

NHL used to be cool...they better find a new way to market themselves without Greztky.

I care, and have watched the games (pretty good so far too).

But I totally agree, the NHL is doing and has done a horrible job marketing itself. Nobody outside of those few hardcore fans, mostly from traditional hockey areas, gives a flip anymore.

Most people now are either uninformed about the game and its rules, or even worse, disinterested. That should be a death blow for the NHL marketing staff. The sad part is, hockey really is a great game with a lot of good people if one learns about the rules and nuances of the game. It can't be too hard if a backwoods country boy from middle Tennessee figured it out :wink2:

Since the Preds are out....Go Canes! Represent Southern Hockey

This only for Vol fans who enjoy pro hockey and would like to know the Stanley Cup situation. The Stanley cup finals are between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Edmonton Oilers this year. Presently Carolina leads the best of seven series 2 games to one. Game 4 is tonight in Edmonton and will be televised on OLN (Outdoor Life Network) Direct TV channel 608. NBC has carried weekend games and will continue if further weekend games are necessary.

The lockout season last year has really hurt the NHL. They've got a long road back. They made some rule changes during the idle season to increase scoring and it has worked. Games are more exciting now.

Well, they didn't really "choose" to be on OLN...

The NHL just de-valued themselves so much from the lockout/strike that ESPN wouldn't pay the NHL to carry their games anymore. After ESPN dropped the NHL contract, OLN was the only network left that would offer to carry the NHL.

The OLN/NBC deal is perhaps the worst television contract in modern sports history. The NHL really gets no appreciable revenue from the deal whatsoever.

I thought ESPN was still on the table, they just offered a lot less than OLN (that is, aside from built-in audience)?

i remember when it used to be on espn
it was sweet b/c every body watched it then
now everybody could care less
maybe if they would start showing it on abc rather than nbc they may get a more better fan base

Precisely. Nobody cares about it because nobody cares about OLN. The only people who ever watched that channel were... Ummm... I got nothin'.

canes were up 3-1, Oilers won the last two, and series is now tied 3-3.

and the oilers beat the canes 4-0 in game 6 to force this game. should be interesing...

game 7, 8 pm EST i believe and, i believe it's on NBC, if not, it's on OLN? In Raleigh, NC at the RBC center.

i've watched more Hockey in the last 6 days than i have in my entire life, and i can't even believe i'm somewhat excited about it.....of course, i'll be labeled a bandwagon fan, but what better time to jump on right?
