What else are you gonig to do without football for 75 more days? I just can't get into hockey or soccer, then again I can't stand to watch pro baseball either until the playoffs.

OK OK. I'm watching. I'm just disappointed that nobody got my joke earlier in the thread.

Nice to add another "choker" to the list. My nominees from the week thus far:

Phil Mick (incumbent)
Shaq at the line
The ref or judge or whattheheckever they call the stripes in hockey

great game last night...congrats to the carolina huricanes....the 1st period of that game was absolutely awesome. as someone who never watched before, i can safely say that if all hockey games were like this series, i'd watch all the time.

No matter what you think of hockey - the Stanley Cup celebration is the BEST trophy related celebration in all of sports.

If that trophy could talk...

Watching Hockey live is amazing. My first job was with the Kentucky Thoroughblades an AHL team.

If you are able to watch games in person I would recommend going as much as possible.

yep, i thought that was pretty cool...it is THE Stanley Cup....

Plus the other thing i was impressed about, as i listened to interviews with players etc...was how humble they all are...everyone thanking someone else on the team, and even when the interviewer tried to get some individualistic comment, they seem to alwasy work it back around to a teammate or something that was the reason for the success....in this day and age of pre madonnas that we all complain about whether it be TO or AI or Ron Artest, ARod etc....it's nice to see professional atheletes that take it for what it is and give credit, and accept blame on the same token, where it's due.

Take Cam Ward...22 yr old Rookie...won the S. Cup and MVP of the playoffs...if there was ever a situation to get a big head, it would be now, but instead, he just says he did the best he could cause he didn't want to let his teammates down.

i know some of it is probably contrived a bit, cause that's probably the image the NHL wants to promote, but still, i'm impressed.

and when you talk about sportsman ship, the handshake at the end is cool too...though i'm sure the losers hate that part!!!!

I'm not ready to say i'm a full fledged NHL fan yet, but there's no reason why this sport shouldn't be a major professional league with the same exposure and large fanbase as the NFL and NBA or MLB. I know from what i saw in just the 4 games i watched the whole season, i would rather now watch a hockey game over the NBA or MLB right now.

while the post-series celebration with the Stanley Cup is cool, I was more referring to the winning team getting to keep the cup all-year and individual players each getting their turn with it.

No telling what's been done with or to that trophy :whistling:

Well, as far as the day with the cup.....I wouldn't even begin to guess how much alchohol has been drank out of it. I remember one story about a player taking it to church and having his newborn baby christened in the cup. Some of the players use it as a promotional tool in businesses they own, like restaurants, to bring in fans/customers. Some players take to their respective countries President/Czar/Dictator/Grand Pooh-Bah so show off. Dominik Hasek once took it back to his hometown and let all of the kids at his old school drink non-alcoholic champagne from it. Its been on motorcycle rides, ridden in super cars, flown with, swam with; and lord knows what else.

There is a cool "Stanley Cup Journal" on the Hockey Hall of Fame website here http://www.hhof.com/html/exSCJ_main.shtml
Some of the funnier pics in there have Pam Anderson drinking from the Cup, Kevin Nash with the Cup, and the Cup under the 100-foot moose in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
