I'm an original Star Wars nerd and I don't get all the handwringing over a black stormtrooper and a fancy lightsaber.
Some people take this **** way too seriously.
Especially considering that so many Star Wars nerds don't even know the lore.
It's been well documented in books, the Clone Wars series, and the new show Rebels that The Emperor stopped the use of clones and started phasing in volunteers between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. For a while the Imperial Army consisted of a mix of clones and volunteer man power until the clones died off (remember a clone's aging is accelerated compared to regular humans). By the time we get to A New Hope, very few clones would have still been in active duty and by the time period of The Force Awakens, there wouldn't have been any left at all and the Imperial army would have been 100% volunteer.
Actually no. The prequel trilogy set the bar so low I think these will be good.
Just to weigh in, I don't see what the big deal is about over a black stormtrooper. Stormtrooper ranks were opened up to ordinary soldiers as the clones died out. There were Imperial Academies where people went to train to become stormtroopers. In a galaxy full of people, what better way to indoctrinate them than to put them in the machine? What, did people think the Star Wars universe had no black people? Hello, Lando Calrissian. Whether or not the character shown was a stormtrooper or someone pretending to be a stormtrooper doesn't really matter. At some point, there was a black stormtrooper. I just don't see what the big deal is.
