Star Wars new director

None of the new characters were likable. Nobody appealed to me enough to care. Adam Driver is a very good actor, but he was miscast in this. Maybe it's not his fault. The writing was terrible, especially in the final two movies.

The Force Awakens was good, not great, but the last two are horrible. Will never watch those two again. Finn and the female pilot
he befriended was so dumb. She was a waste of time. Princess Leia space flight was so comical. I remember half the theater laughing at that scene. This is just a few things that make these movies bad.

I will give you that the whole Rose aspect was awful. She was a bad character.

Everyone references the Leia space flight, but while I agree that was pretty cringy, even the original trilogy had plenty of equally cringy moments that no one seems to gripe about.

The Ewoks killing stormtroopers with rocks and sticks alone was cringier than Leia levitating herself through space for 3 seconds.

I thought Kylo was an excellent character, and I thought Driver killed it in that role.

If we are going to go by the cringe factor then the Prequels are about 80% cringe whereas the sequels 35% and the OT maybe 10%.

The biggest problem I had with the sequels was lack of direction for 3 movies. JJ set up a bunch of stuff in a nostalgia filled first chapter, Johnson wasn’t interested in any of that and was allowed to push the franchise in a new direction. Half the internet fans bished and moaned, and instead of following through they fired the next director, brought JJ in to walk back most of the middle movie.

I actually like the new characters but I think they didn’t do Rey’s hero journey very well and they seemed to be at a loss with what to do with Fin and Poe after the first one. Kylo was the best part.

The prequels may be cringy in many many ways but at least there was a solid through line in place for 3 movies.

I loved the last trilogy actually. I thought it was superb.

No one has ever been able to give me a good reason why they hate it, except for what they did with Luke, and that I agree with.

I hate that Rey just appears and with basically no training is able to mind trick a Storm Trooper and force grab a light saber from a force user.

That whole second movie ruined it. The fact that the villain from it played no major role in the 3rd film was just stupid. They had so much to springboard off of from JJ’s film and just messed it all up.

Yeah but Snoke was just Emperor Lite. I actually appreciated what Johnson was trying to do by breaking away from all the redundant stuff bogging down SW and getting away from the Skywalker stuff. The script for what the 3rd movie was meant to be with Kylo going full dark side sounded much more interesting than bringing back Palpatine and making Rey his granddaughter via his clone.

But to your point, they should have just hired JJ to oversee all 3 films instead of experimenting with 3 directors/writers and letting them do their own thing.

"Somehow he returned..." about sums up that trilogy for me. They lost the plot and decided the way to salvage it was to tactlessly parallel the original trilogy to the point of absurdity and hope that audience's fond memories of the originals would lull them into complacency with the trash they produced.

I hope anyone looking for good star wars content has watched Andor. Mandalorian has lost me. Save us Andor, you're our only hope.

Andor is fantastic. I thought the Obi Wan series was pretty good, and I believe that Rogue One is the best Star Wars ever made.

I know I said earlier that there will be a Gen of people that love the sequels in 20 years but they may look to the Mando corner as their SW.

Speaking completely anecdotally my kids do like the sequels, mostly for BB8, but prefer Mando and probably 2nd to the OT.

1. Wasn’t the movie plot it was even originally meant to be.

2. Never once had the original cast all together in one scene which is criminal

3. Death of Han was stupid.

4. Kyle arc was meant to go opposite way but was received so poorly they gave up

5. Snope was a huge build up to nothing and had zero back story.

6. Second movie altered the first movie so bad the third one had to go completely a different way

7. Made Vader death meaningless and destroyed his bringing balance back to the force arc as the emperor didn’t truly die

8. Her having a connection to Luke’s LS is bs as she was from a different bloodline

9. Suddenly Leia had Jedi powers and can fly in space. Scene was dumb

10. Tries to kill his mom in 2 but somehow changes heart in 3 because of her dying

This is just ten things off the top of my head that make it suck. Rogue was amazing. Most shows have been great. Trilogy sucked.

I'll defend the prequels in one sense. I think those movies are chock full of great IDEAS that were just poorly executed on screen. Those ideas were much better realized in The Clone Wars animated series.

Lucas made two crucial mistakes with the prequels. 1.) He should've never hired Rick McCallum to produce those movies. Lucas should've had the self-awareness to know that surrounding himself with an echo chamber of "yes men" would not serve the films well. Lucas needed a producer that could challenge him on questionable decisions that were made. He also should've never directed the prequels himself. He needed a strong director that could provide critical feedback in areas where Lucas could've used it.

I also don't think the casting of Natalie Portman as Padme and Hayden Christiansen as Anakin were good choices. They had ZERO chemistry with each other, and Natalie had none of the spunk that her would be daughter possessed. For Anakin, Leo DiCaprio was RIGHT THERE for that role and would've nailed it! He even looked a lot like Jake Lloyd (the kid who played young Anakin). As for Padme, I don't know who I would've cast but it wouldn't have been Natalie Portman.

Let me add one more thing...

11. Flies to a planet to find the Sith dagger with no clue where to look for it. Randomly falls into quicksand, descending down to a network of caves, "Oh look! Here it is!" Sorry, but my suspension of disbelief only goes so far!

Dolores Cannon of QHHT fame was closely tied to a psychic with whom Gene Roddenberry lived with for over 20 years. Roddenberry took copious notes of her readings and prophecies and spun them into SW.

Assuming you meant Trek not Wars.

So this psychic prophesied a utopian socialist society for Earth? Because that is what Roddenberry tried to convey with Star Trek. Particularly TNG.

Trek, yes. Don't know exactly what Schwimmer (sp?) said but Roddenberry concurred.
