Not necessarily fickle. Remember, once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.

Good memory. I think Darth Vader always had that hidden bit of kindness, although he remained evil 99% of the time.

That's the ONLY decision he makes where he does not choose the dark side. He realizes then that his son has done what he could not do, turn away from the temptation of darkness, and that unless he also turns away, his son will die.

But from the moment he exacted revenge on the Tusken Raiders, his destiny was set. Every choice he has before him from that time on he chooses what's best for Anakin instead of what the Jedi Code teaches.

Lucas has created one of the all time tragic figures in movie history. That's one of the reasons why Ep III is so damn good. It takes Everything everyone thought they knew about Vader and turns it upside down.

What moved me the most was just how "human" the old Vader character was portrayed. The mysterious evil lord in the wicked black suit started as a young man afraid of losing the love of his life, who was willing to do anything to save her. Even if it meant going against all the teachings and morality of the Jedi way.

Look at any extremist group (including some religions) and see the kind of people that they attract: those who are afraid and those who are weak or helpless. The appeal? They offer an answer, a solution, company, understanding, and strength.

This whole idea and the "tragic" fall of Skywalker are the most powerful aspects of the series. I love the symbolism Lucas employs and the much broader message he delivers. Anyone who thinks Star Wars is about a young, eager filmmaker's passion for building futuristic models and blowing stuff up has completely missed the boat.

I think episodes I II and III will be looked back upon with much more respect than we initially gave them.

I agree. Ep III has already improved the first two a mega-ton. I went back and watched Ep I a week or so ago and it was all different. The parts that used to plod along like a Bantha in wet sand do a lot to set the story up. Of course I've always argued that Ep I is better than most people give it credit. It has the best lightsaber duel in it next to The Duel.

I liked Episode I alot when it came out. Sure, Jar Jar was annoying, but I had no problems with it, other than that minor gripe. I didn't like II that much when it came out, but it has since grown on me after multiple viewings.

After seeing III a couple of times, I think it's my favorite of all of them, even better than (gasp!) Episodes IV and V.
