agreed, and i think we could also see at time a starting line-up of..

ramar smith
chris lofton
duke crews
wayne chism
major wingate

i think the first line-up will be used way more often but that second starting line-up would be a monster team

I agree. I think Smith, Lofton, and Bradshaw are shoe-ins. As far as Wingate, with his size if he improves over the summer and will get more aggressive rebounding he is an automatic. That would leave Crews to get the last starting spot. Either way, I hope all these kids that are coming in are good enough to contribute and none of 2 redshirt because if they can play our bench will be somewhere around 6 deep with JuJuan Smith, Childress, Chism, Tabb, Johnson, and Howell.

Tennessee Basketball is on the map!

I don't think we can say anyone is a lock. We all pretty much know that Lofton will start and seem to think Ramar and Duke will too. But, Coach Pearl will definitely play our strongest performers. If Dane and Major perform as they have in the past, they could easily lose a starting position. All of this really doesn't matter though when it comes down to it. All will see alot of playing time this season. Coach Pearl really likes to run his players. Now that we have the depth for his style, we will definitely see more rotating in and out. MAN! I can't wait til next year!!! :yahoo:

Well considering they are gonna be guys you can throw in there to give your starters some minutes, that is considered depth in my eyes. Childress has alot of work to do but he will get better as well as Howell.

i dont know if i'd call childress and howell "depth"

Howell is not going to knock anyone's socks off, but he is solid and doesn't make a lot of dumb mistakes. He did pretty well last year backing up CJ.

we got by with only playing 7 guys last year, i think if we play the five starters and JuJuan Smith, Tabb or Johnson or both, and crewes or chism we should be set without howell or childress there is a reason he barely played this year and even less in the tourney

No I realize that I wasnt talking about Howell or Childress playing big minutes and doing big things for us. I'm thinking more along the lines of when we get in foul trouble or if we had an injury here or there, we have up to 6 bodies that should be able to come off the bench and help out somewhat. I think we all agree that neither Howell or Childress is ever gonna be an all-conference player or anything but Howell gave us alot of good minutes this past season and there is no reason he cant do it again. Childress, well not soe much, but he will work and get better now that he sees he will be on the end of the bench if he doesnt.

Childress, at best, can be a Gannon Goodson type player.

Exactly. While Howell doesn't have many ways to get to the basket, he takes care of the ball and can run the offense if need be. Who knows, another off season of practice and weights and he might even turn into a real 3 point threat. Never know..

PG-Ramar Smith
SG-Chris Lofton
SF-Dane Bradshaw
PF-Duke Crews
C-Wayne Chism/Major Wingate

There is no way that Major and Wayne will be starting together. That would kill any kind of press that we would wanna run. I'd almost go as far as to say that the PG, SG, SF, and PF positionas are locked in this way.

What about Tabb and Johnson? Anyone think they'll get any playing time next year or will they redshirt?

I don't know about that, but I do think somebody will leave. I would be surprised if the bench stays that deep. Howell or Childress may decide to transfer. One of the guards you mentioned may leave after next year. I'm not trying to stir things up. I hope all of those guys stay put. I'm just saying that as a fan this seems to good to be true. Hopefully, there will be enough playing time to go around and satisfy everyone's competitive juices. Go Bruce Go!

one could transfer, Johnson could take as 2nd PG and Tabb could be redsirted. Johnson could also play anything from PG-SF with his height

All I know is this is a good problem to have...I mean you can't have to many good players Coach Pearl will use them all in his system...I mean last year he used what he had and made it work so I trust he knows what he is doing..I will let him figure it all out I just want to enjoy [attachmentid=4964]

I wouldn't be surprised if our depth chart looked a little something like this...

Point Guard...
Ramar Smith (Fr.)
Josh Tabb (Fr.)
Jordan Howell (Jr.)

Shooting Guard...
Chris Lofton (Jr.)
JaJuan Smith (Jr.)

Small Forward...
Dane Bradshaw (Sr.)
Anthony Passley (So?)
Marques Johnson (Fr.)

Power Forward...
Duke Crews (Fr.)
Ryan Childress (So.)

Center...
Major Wingate (Sr.)
Wayne Chism (Fr.)
Damion Harris (Fr.)

- I think Josh Tabb will surprise alot of us by his play. I think he can be a very solid point guard backing up Ramar.
- Assuming Passley stays on the team, he and Marques will back up Dane. Marques could move over to SG or even PG if needed.
- I don't think Wayne Chism will jump into the starting line-up.
- I believe there was a post a few weeks ago regarding J.P. Prince possibly transfering to UT. I dunno if that is true but that would be a huge addition and he and Ramar could be an unbelievable backcourt.

I thought UT had some problems rebounding because of the small line-up UT played. Bradshaw isnt a true fwd, he's really sized more like a guard at 6'4, playing him at small forward makes the team undersized.

I think at some point Lofton will want to transition to play point, at his height thats his best position in the NBA.

Considering how talented smith, bradshaw playing time may be impacted. This is a better line-up to make-up for the lack of rebounding this year.

G Smith/Lofton
G Lofton/Bradshaw
F Crews/Bradshaw
F Chism
C Wingate

with either Smith or Bradshaw being the 6th man. Probably Bradshaw since he can play both Fwd or Guard. Nice player to have so when one of those gets in foul trouble he can play either position. I like the idea of Smith and Lofton being the smaller guard playing point with Bradshaw to help bring the ball up when he is in the game. Its a nice, tall line-up. Rebounding would improve dramatically.

I'm sure against smaller teams you can let Chism split time with Wingate at Center and Let Bradshaw start at small forward. These 6 players give you a lot of options with a small or big lineup depending on who you play.
