We're going to have to start putting an R or a J before Smith..

I dont know if Bradshaw will start. He had a great season so that makes it tough. If he doesnt start, he'll still get a lot of minutes.

All I know is this is a good problem to have...I mean you can't have to many good players Coach Pearl will use them all in his system...I mean last year he used what he had and made it work so I trust he knows what he is doing..I will let him figure it all out I just want to enjoy [attachmentid=4964]

where can I download that?

I agree he's an important player and plays hard. I think he needs to play wing instead of SF unless your playing a small team. Its hard for him to defend a tall forward. I still think Lofton will want to transition to point if he wants to play in the NBA. A line-up like this is tall enough to make a difference on the boards.

PG - Lofton
W - Bradshaw
F - Chism
F - Crews
C - Wingate

Lofton cant play point. That's what makes it tough. You're not gonna play Bradshaw over Lofton or Ramar.

lofton doesnt have the quickness speed, drive ability, or passing ability to play the point, he is a pure shooter and nothing more

I think Lofton can improve enough to play point guard. At some point, he will have to, R. Smith can't go the whole game playing point guard. Who else plays point? I would much rather have Lofton then Howell playing it.

I like the idea of Bradshaw as the 6th man. He can come in and play either guard or forward depending on who is in early foul trouble. H'e a perfect 6th man, he could come for every guy in this lineup except wingate:

G- R. Smith
G- Lofton
F- Crews
F- Chism
C- Wingate

That lineup puts your 5 best players on the floor and Bradshaw comes in for anyone in early foul trouble. When R smith goes out, Lofton has to move to point. No way around it. Bradshaw then plays wing. Bradshaw can come in for either Forward.

Lofton cant play point plain and simple if anyone will move over it will be Jujuan Smith or even Bradshaw before Lofton, Lofton lacks all the skills other than shooting that point guard needs.

I'm with mattvols on this. It would take a ton of work for Lofton to play the point. That's not going to happen. He doesn't even look comfortable dribbling the basketball under pressure.

No way Lofton plays point guard in this system. In my opinion Tabb will be the backup point guard to Ramar Smith. Tabb plays pg for a very good high school team and averages around 9 assists per game. He is also much faster and more athletic than Lofton. Smith and Tabb will be able to drive to the basket and kick the ball out to Lofton. This is where we will be deadly. This past year, we really had no one other than maybe C.J. who could really drive to the basket and kick it out.

We also had no inside threat. Because of this, teams keyed solely on Lofton towards the end of the season. Now with Chism and Crews to go along with Wingate, this won't be the case.

I didn't think that CJ drove to the basket as much as he could have though.

It will be exciting once those guys do what you said and get Lofton some really good looks. Offensive rebounds will help too.

This team will be young though. We'll have to roll with freshman mistakes. But if we win enough to get back to the tourney, those freshman won't be freshman at the end of the year. They'll have a seasons worth of SEC experience and could do some good things.

Young teams can succeed in college basketball. That's why I'm excited about getting these guys on the court. I think Crews, Chism, and Ramar should be starting until they prove they arent capable.

I agree, I'm just saying that there will probably be a few more turnovers now that we lost CJ, but who knows for sure. I've never seen Ramar play. I can't wait to see these guys take the court.

I can't believe how much Tennessee basketball has changed in one year. Crazy..

This is how I see the starting lineup next year along with their backups:
C - Major Wingate
PF - Duke Crews
SF/G - Dane Bradshaw
SG - Chris Lofton
PG - Ramar Smith

I think Bradshaw will start over a freshman. He may not be as talented as Chism, but he is a senior and he is a leader. It is too risky to start 3 freshmen anyway.

Bench:
C - Chism/Childress/Harris
PF - Chism
SF - Marques Johnson/Passley/Crews
SG - JaJuan Smith/Howell/Johnson
PG - Tabb/Johnson

I can see 10 players getting 10+ minutes a game.
Ramar Smith, Bradshaw, Lofton, Wingate, Crews, Chism, JaJuan Smith, Johnson, Tabb, and Howell. I think he will work on his shot and be a pure spot up shooter for us next year. Alot of people forget that Howell was a decent prospect out of high school, and was signed by Jim Harrick at Georgia. I think Howell can realize his potential after some more coaching by Pearl.

Childress and Damion Harris may play some, but not much.

I don't really know enough about Passley so I don't know how much he will play if he is even back.

I think as a coach you put the your best athletes in the line-up.

Lofton is 6'2", its a natural size for a pg, he's very undersized to play a 2 guard in the NBA. You dont see him dribble a lot now, as the 2 guard, but he's setting up for a shot, that doesn't mean he cant. He's very underrated a as a defender/passer/dribbler.

Putting you best 5 on the floor I think gives you

G - R Smith
G - Lofton
F - Chism
F - Crews
C - Wingate

Bradshaw can play 4 of those positions if Lofton moves over to point when he goes in as Guard. Bradshaw goes in for anyone in early foul trouble. J Smith and Harris are you other 2 main substitutions.

Lofton will more than likely not be a point guard in the nba. He will be a shooting guard. Lofton is our most valuable player. He is one of, if not the best shooter in the nation. But he is simply not quick enough to play pg.

If Pearl was thinking about playing Lofton at the point, he would not have signed 3 potential point guards in this class.

he's too small in my opinion to play a 2 guard in the nba. they would post him up or drive and shoot over him.

Like I said before, the problem with Lofton as the 2 guard and Bradshaw as the small forward, is you end with a small team on the court thats going to get out rebounded.

Coach Pearl, mentioned several times on the radio that Bradshaw is playing out of position as a forward, he is really a wing. Thats why I would like to go with the bigger line-up of Lofton (G), Bradshaw (G), Chism (F), Crews (F), Wingate (C ) That line-up is very athletic and would outrebound most teams.

I think a big element in all of this is the fact that starting won't mean as much next year, in terms of minutes played, as this year. I think Pearl wants 8-9 guys who play 20+ minutes than 5 guys who play 30. I see the main rotation as follows:

PG R. Smith
SG C. Lofton
SF D. Bradshaw
PF D. Crews
C M. Wingate

with the primary guys off the bench (getting around 20 minutes per game) being JaJuan Smith, Chism, and Johnson. I figure Tabb may well redshirt. The remaining minutes will be picked up, primarily, by Howell and Childress. I'm still not convinced that either Passley or Harris are going to play much (assuming Passley doesn't get kicked off the team, which at this point doesn't seem like that big of a deal) Harris, however, is another big body to put in the paint.

I think we should all keep in mind that Bradshaw, prior to his wrist injury, was the most valuable player on this team - not necessarily in terms of points scored, but he was the leading rebounder for quite some time, plus assists, steals, ballhandling, etc. Assuming he recovers well from his surgery, there is no way on earth Pearl is going to keep him out of the starting lineup. But, again, it's all about balance - I'm sure Pearl would like his starting 5 to play 28-30 minutes per game, not 33-36. Now we've got the manpower to keep fresh legs on the floor and make the press that much more effective.

I'm excited.

I mean, REALLY excited.

Lets all remember how Coach Pearl likes to mix it up. This is not Buzz here. There's really no reason to be worrying about starting lineups. With this much talent on the team, we would go CRAZY trying to figure out what the best lineup will be. Truth be told, Coach Pearl will use many different packages on the floor. He has enough bodies and talent to use many different line-ups and situations for all the different styles of play that we will see on the floor this year. Its all still funny to me though. I don't remember the last time we had such a hard time figuring out who would play what position and how many minutes.

You don't think these guys have a dream of getting paid to play basketball in the nba?

Fulmer has lured 100's of players to UT with the hope of getting them to the level where they can play in the NFL one day. Look at his website www.phillipfulmer.com, he has a list of all the players he has had developed into NFL players. There is a reason he has that there, because its important to the players he recruits.

Look at the big picture, and get realistic.

I agree 100%. You can't ignore the lure of the pros.

P.S. - Be careful . . . I think you almost said "get REAL" at the end of that post. :D
