Does it seem strange that uga does not have a single one of the top 10 players in the state of Georgia committed to play for them? They don't come in until number 12. They only have 1 committment in the state's top 40 (the same number as Georgia Tech). Clemson and bama each have 3 players from their top 10, even Tennessee has one of the top 10.

I know building a fence around the state is meaningless compared to the old days, but this seems strange to me. Am I missing something? I thought Georgia was concerned the best job in America because they have so much talent within an hours drive. Why are they not getting most of that talent?

35 players in Georgia are rated a 4* or 5* and Georgia has a commitment from only one of them.

Instate talent is the most overrated advantage in college football. It's still an advantage, but not nearly what some think it is.

According to 247 and not poppy rivals, the state of Georgia has 5 players in the top 100 in the country.

The university of Georgia has 9 players in the top 100 committed.

Also on 247, they have 2 of the top 10 players in state committed.

So no, I’d say not that weird.

Was about to ask how does GA rank nationally this year.

1) They are ranked # 2 overall in recruiting with only 5 players from being from Georgia

2) At almost every position they signed an out of state kid, that kid was ranked higher than any from Georgia at the same position.

3) They're in cherry picking mode. The United States is now their backyard. not just the state of Georgia...

4) Kids like to see new territory.

They are currently ranked 2nd in the country in recruiting on both Rivals and 247 and finished first or second in national recruiting the last four years or so. Check back with me when there is a real problem with Georgia's recruiting.

Recruiting doesn’t matter locally anymore with championship or bust programs unlike what many think. You either recruit nationally with the big boys and battle 5-8 schools for the top guys across the country or you don’t. Tennessee hopefully is getting to that point here soon again like we were under Fulmer

And you need coaches who can develop the rest. As Coach Ekeler said when he was hired, every recruiting cycle really only produces about 3-5 elite difference makers. After those, you can pretty much throw the next 300 or so in a bucket and there isn't much difference...it's about developing them.

Tennessee landed one of those elite difference makers in the 2023 class....Nico. The rest will be developed.

5) Kids want to win it all. Sucks for everyone else, but until someone beats them, I don't see that changing.

Totally agree to that as well. Got to have both!

Check back with me when there is a real problem with Georgia's recruiting.

I never said uga is doing a poor job recruiting. I'm simply saying it seems like the 1 advantage people have always given uga is that they have so much talent in the state of Georgia. Well, if they aren't utilizing that talent how is it an advantage?

So are you Kirby's agent or what's your angle here? When Tenn was really good the staff always caught grief about not recruiting enough in state talent. Georgia recruits on a national level. In the case of Georgia, sometimes the best of the best are in your backyard, sometimes they are just across the border, sometimes they are across the country if you have that kind of reach. If you think that is the one advantage that they have - you don't understand recruiting. Kirby learned from Saban and Alabama. They also seem to be pretty good at recruiting.

I think they had an advantage while building to what they are now. At this point they recruit whoever the heck they want

If you want to be an undisputed top 3 team in the nation you have to bring in multiple 5 stars a year at different levels of the offense and defense, backed up by a good amount of 4 and 3 star players, who fit your system and culture. Competition breeds champions. You don’t get that by not recruiting nationally. Not weird at all to me.

I’m so glad we have a thread now solely for uga recruiting.
Tennessee has more top 40 players out of Georgia than uga has. That was my point. Even in the days when Tennessee recruited most of their talent nationally I feel like we still get 5 of the top 10 kids in-state.

Maybe the recruits in Ga are overrated. We have 3 or 4 from Georgia that have entered the portal.

Point should be..if it’s a thought you have like this, that’s fine. But it should be posted in the recruiting talk thread so this forum isn’t congested with a billion threads about ____.

You mean stars matter? You must be new here. The fact that every single national championship winner has more blue chips (4&5 s) than 3*s obviously means nothing.

States like California, Florida, Georgia and Texas have plenty of talent to spread around to different universities and fill their needs.
