Must've been a deep assed pond, rainbows aren't much for water temperatures over 60 or so. That or he got dumped in there recently.

How do you get a state record fishing in a private pond?

From what I understand it doesn't matter as long as it is not an aquarium or artificial(concrete/fiberglass) pool. It is not necessarily the same as High fence hunting. Some "ponds" are small lakes.

Seems like if you had a big pond in your yard, you could catch and transplant, then hand feed em like the carp at amusement parks...seems like cheating to me.

My dad had a friend with trout like this in his pond. It was spring fed so stayed cold all year. Fed em dog food. Five pounds was kind of on the small side. 10-12 pounders were common.

That thing must have been someones pet, I've never caught a trout in a pond before. A river pool maybe, but not a pond.

See the post just before yours. We installed some hardwood flooring in a luxury cabin not far from Benton years ago. It had a shaded 2 acre spring fed lake. That water was cooold in August. They had some small rainbows in it that they had just stocked the year before. I bet they are huge now. That was 18 years ago.

Yeah I have, some pretty good fishing at times. I've basically fished every creek/river in DC. I actually prefer that over the lake.

Are there any others as big as the Smith Fork? I've kayaked it from behind the elementary school on 70 down to the new concrete bridge about 7 miles downstream.

I'd put my money down on them being dead after 18 years. 7 years is average life span, 11 if you're lucky.

I figured that maybe they reproduced, buy in retrospect I don't know if they even could. If not, I would say that those folks restocked. They were mega rich
