Pat Riley, during his time on the sidelines, was always fond of talking about "statement games." He used that term to describe contests where his team could show themselves to be a serious contender that opponents would have to deal with come winning time. Tomorrow is such a day for UT. If they come out and handle an undermanned Memphis group on the road, they'll give indications that the USC game isn't a harbinger of things to come. Should they lose, they'll have gone through the entire '09 portion of this season's schedule without beating a single decent opponent. The final score tomorrow will certainly say something about this team and where they are headed.

Absolutely agree, Hat. I have absolutely no feel as to how this game will unfold either. I wouldn't be very surprised to see us win, and I wouldn't be surprised to get beat 15 or 20.

I agree 100%. This team is really starting to frustrate me. We easily have 15, probably top 10 talent, but I l don't feel like we could go out and come close to a KU or Texas right now. Tomorrow is the barometer for where this team is headed.

There's absolutely no excuse for losing tomorrow to a team with essentially 4 players. If the USC game didn't act a reality check, you can waive the white flag for this team.

I agree. I am really concerned about who we will put on Elliot Williams. I would hate to see what he would do to Scotty Hopson.

I don't have a feel for this game because I can't read this team.

We should win this game without issue, but I'm not ready to say I'm certain that will happen.

But I agree that this is a statement game. After today's game we should have a better idea on what this team has.

If you waive the flag, please let me send you one to wave.

I am expecting a big day from JP Prince who always played well against Memphis in seasons when he sucked.

If Hopson shoots like crap this game will be hard for us, but if he shoots well we will win easily.

With Pearl, there hasn't been a track record of steady improvement throughout the course of a particular season. Watching UT is like watching the Dennis Green press conference from a couple years back. "They are who we thought they were." I think regardless of today's outcome, we are who we are for better or worse.

This team is hard to read but they seem to play better against Memphis.
I think we take them.
GO VOLS!

Totally agree with hat, if this team has any life and wants to make this a memorable season it starts in Memphis. If they fail there Im surrendering, and settling for a low seed or NIT.

I don't think I can handle two losses in one day. If we lose both, I will lose a little respect for both coaches.

I am feeling pretty good about today's games - let's stay positive, VolNation, and hope we hear Rocky Top a hundred times on the ESPN networks today! Go Vols!

We just got hot from the 3 last game , but our inside game is pitiful . WC can be really good in the paint for the Vols and y'all have a little depth down low ( We have none ) . So imo this game pretty much depends on the coach and if he can get the better inside game established .
If we get hot with the 3 ball it might get interesting . I hope the game is good for both programs since it's on espn2 and alot of recruits will be watching .

No matter what good luck to you guys !! :good!:

GO TIGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait and see how you feel if we lose both. That should answer your question.

I lose respect for coaches when they lose games, but gain respect when they win.

I actually gained some respect for CLK in his loss to Bammer and the Urbies. I gained no respect for Nickie or Blurban since they won.

That's about the dumbest thing I've read on here.
