Steelers @ Pats............

i'll avoid being a Steeler homer and say the pats win comfortably. i think our D is a bit overrated, and if we don't have ball security or protect the passer, that's not a recipe for beating them.

i think our D, though, can give them some problems, but we don't have a DB that can hang with Moss.

and Welker, again, just like the Colts game, will be the guy that scares me the most. he'll be matched up with LB's at times and that's when it could get ugly for us.

i'll say 31-17 right now.
sometimes it's scary. given the football teams that i root for, i wonder sometimes if i would even be able to recognize a dominant football team as well as i can a mediocre one that gets where it's going with smoke and mirrors.

it played out about like i expected.

well he certatinly didn't help his cause with his play yesterday.

"exposed" doesnt' even begin to describe the Steeler Secondary.

Belicheck after the game: We've seen a lot better safeties than that.

I mean talk about foot in mouth, he got it from all angles. Before the game from the media, during the game from Moss and Brady physically and verbally, and then after the game from his own players and the whole Pats locker room.

He committed the cardinal sin and gave the Pats motivation and made himself look like a ridiculous blowhard in the process.

And to those who say the D is better without Polamalu, this game is exhibit A of why that sentiment is incorrect.

no, it's not. there's not a single player in the game that would make that big of a difference when playing the patriots when they are on, as they were yesterday.

TP is good, and i want him on my team, don't get me wrong, but they have played better at times w/out him than with him. he's had one excellent game this year, against the bengals a few weeks ago. He was dreadful against the Jets and Cardinals.

I dont see how having a pro bowler who forces turnovers would have made that defense play any worse than it did. How about the zero sacks yesterday, or the zero turnovers? I think TP would have helped out in that regard.

But in those two losses you mentioned, the defense gave up 21 and 19 points, while the offense scored only 14 and 16 points. I don't think that TP and the defense should be too responsible for those losses when your O can't put up over 20 against two really bad defenses.

TP doesn't make THAT much of a difference in yesterday's game.

i've been saying it all year, if we don't get turnovers, which we have, our def. is average at best.

And I'm saying that TP is better than any other safety on the roster, and they can use him to create turnovers. Whether it is with his ability to force fumbles, blitz to create pressure forcing bad passes, or to cover (usually).

The game was way too easy for the Pats offense. No sacks, no negative yards, no predictable down and distance scenarios. Its hard not to think TP would have given them a better chance to be more multiple...ala Bob Sanders, Mike Brown, or John Lynch when healthy.

i know, but it's true. trust me, as someone that has been following the Steelers for a long time, i've seen this defense play much better with and with out him.

the problem with TP isn't really him all by itself. it's really how they use him. for the all movement and running around he does, the only thing the Off has to know is where he ISN'T and go away from that side. the injury has made him tenative on his tackles and he's been out of position on more than one oacciasion this year.

is he a difference maker? yeah, sure he is. would he have been one yesterday? maybe. but i don't think the end result changes, just maybe the margin.

It's obvious that the turning point yesterday was Ward getting stopped at the 1, and the Pats going 99 for seven.

First of all, the call was weird, I'm always a proponent of lining up and going straight ahead, or up and over for that yard. Second, I don't know how you can let Welker beat you like he did. I really don't think that in a 6 yard route he is that hard to contain, especially after the 3rd and 4th times.

the reverse to Ward was not the greatest call, but in fairness, he tried to run behind Colon, who got absolutely NO PUSH, and he got tackled right there behind him. Ward isn't a blazer, so i don't know that he could have turned the corner on that play.

as for Welker, i said it last week, he was the guy that scared me the most. and he proved why on that drive.

the throws to him were at the LOS and he got amazing YAC. partly because we chose to play off the WR, and in how he was lined up for the play that was called, he simply beat the blitz.

it was really good play calling on their part. backed up on the one, we went after brady. they countered with WR screens where virtually no one was available to cover.....the DB's had to make a decision...do i stick with the guy i'm supposed to cover or break off to get this. by the time that decision is made, the damage is done.

Tomlin got a healthy dose of being outcoached. and so did Lebeau.

Tomlin did look helpless and resigned to taking whatever Belichick wanted to do to him.

and that was evident on our last possesion......7 minutes left in the game and we proceeded to have a 5 minute drive just to get out of there.

Yeah I noticed there was no hurry up. Big Ben was busy calling out blitzes instead of hiking the ball.

it was by design. they got it handed to 'em, they didn't want to put the D back out there, just get out of there and move on.
