Yeah, Fisher and Bud really laid the law down with PacMan. Please, stop it with this stuff.
Ok, what? I didn't say anything along those lines at all. Did I say Fisher disciplines, no. I don't think I praised him or Bud or Reinfeldt the slightest at all in what I said. Might I ask what were you reading?
I said what happens now with that team is that they're very cautious of any player that his any off the field incidents and character issues. If they find a player has troubles off the field, they don't go after him. And they have decent reasoning
As I'm sure you are aware, Goodell's the disciplining authority; he goes after the players who misrepresent the league off the field and suspends or fines them depending on what he feels is proper.
However he also tells the owners and Front Offices each year that if it becomes a recurring issue on any team that players are having troubles, he will penalize/punish the team in turn as well. This hasn't happened yet, but since he keeps telling it to them, no team in the league wants to be the first to find out how much it takes or what he will do.
That's why you're seeing players cut or traded due to off the field incidents so much now. In the 90s or early 00s, during Taglibue's reign as commish, Randy Moss got in trouble for pot and nothing much came of it. Now he would be fined or penalized. Ray Lewis wasn't suspended for his incident, nor that player who hit the Oakland fan in like 01 or 02. Now both probably would be.
None of these teams want to be the first to find out what happens. That's why you're seeing these cases of the Steelers getting rid of Holmes; why the Bears ditched Tank Johnson; why SD got rid of cromartie and Cleveland so quickly getting rid of Edwards; the Titans avoiding getting anyone at all who has past off the field issues (especially since they had the player punished the worst so far in Goodell's tenure).
It's detrimental to have those players on the team, and no one wants to be that team to find out what goodell's threshold for loss of control is nor what his punishment will be.
That's what I was getting at. I never said anything about the Titans handling pacman or whatever. They just avoid players with off the field stuff since they had the worst incident.
So that was what I meant. If the case was just you misunderstood me, I hope that clears that up. If it's otherwise, then I just have to say I'm sorry and what's your deal?
