Robbins is a Pats thread magnet:) Hey do you think the Jag D will pose any signifigant problem to the Pats?

The Jags D is good. It isn't good enough for Brady and Moss, No. Let me say again, they do have a good D. I will enjoy seeing Brady pick it apart.

having been a steeler fan for all my life, and from Memphis, and now being married to a pittsburgh girl, i can tell you that the reason there are so many steeler fans out there is because the 2nd and 3rd generation steeler fans all moved out of the 'burgh, but took with them their love for the steelers.

hell, i live in Charlotte and i'm telling you half the city is from Western Pa.

as for me, i'm just smart.

Being a second-generation fan is a perfectly reasonable connection to the city. My scorn is reserved for these guys that you meet in sports bars all across the south who wear replica jerseys, throw around "we" and "our" about the team all over the place, and yet have never even been to Pittsburgh (or Dallas, Oakland, etc.). I mean, I liked the Steelers when I was a kid too, largely because of the black uniforms and the Steel Curtain defense. Then I grew up. Liking a team's logo when he was seven years old is a pretty silly reason for any grown man to strut around like a season ticket holder.

you'd be surprised at how many "pittsburghers" are actuallly living in all those cities you see htem in.

anyway, when i was growing up in Memphis, you had the Saints, Cardinals and Falcons all relatively close and then there were the Cowboys fans too.

i liked the Steelers primarily cause a lot of people i knew loved the Cowboys. and it just stuck with me.

actually marrying a girl from the 'burgh that has a dad with Season tickets was just a bonus.:salute:

the dallas fans are the worst. yeah i'm sure you liking the cowboys had nothing to do with the fact that they were kicking butt in the 90s. at least admit you are a bandwaggoner. there's always some bs excuse as to why they are fans of a team from a city they have never been to, but magically that team just happens to be the one that was kicking butt when they were in their early teens.

Oh, I know there are plenty of folks from Pittsburgh down here in the south; you can tell by all the Penguins fans you see. (Not so many Pirates fans, though.) But there are also a ton of guys from the south who engage in face-painting type behavior just because they jumped on the bandwagon at age 8. Little kids can root for whomever they want, of course, but unless your dad was a Browns fan or a Steelers fan or an Eagles fan or whatever, when you grow up, it's time to support the local team. Just my opinion.

I in no way intended to call out anybody on this board with my original comment the other night. I was fairly drunk and had just had an conversation earlier in the evening with an especially obnoxious, so-called Steelers fan from Macon, Georgia. I had wanted to see PIT win, but told myself that at least that guy was unhappy.

Yep. No question that in a few years there will be a bunch of guys in their 30s who have been Patriots fans "forever."

As I said, frontrunning when you're a little kid is one thing. But it seems like a silly thing on which to base your whole adult life supporting a team.

there a lot of people that feel the same way here in Charlotte. it's no secret that htis is a transplant city, and it's never more apparent than when Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, NYG, Chicago etc...come to Charlotte to play the Panthers.

the thing you have to realize, whether you're from a city or not, is if you grew up a fan of a team, then you're a fan of that team. what about all the TN fans on this site that didn't go to UTK or graduate? that doesn't make them any less a fan. same for the folks from out of state that came to school at UTK, they didn't grow up TN fans, but by graduation, i'd bet most of them are.

or alum or fans of UT that don't live in TN anymore? i grew up a TN fan and went to school there, but now live in NC, i'm not going to root for UNC cause they're the home team. and neither is a cowboys fan that grew up watching Emitt Smith that lives in Philly or Atlanta or Tampa.

and as such a fan, remember, i grew up in Memphis but love the Steelers, i didn't have to be from the 'burgh to appreciate them well in to my adulthood. I root for hte panthers too, but not when they play the Steelers. i was at the Panthers/Steelers game last season wearing black and gold. i was at the Panthers/Colts game this year wearing my Steve SMith jersey.

point is, there doesn't have to be any rhyme or reason to why you root for team only that you want to.

and i must admit, i love it whent he Steelers are playing in San Diego and the announcers can't help but comment on how many terrible towels they see in the stands. Dallas may be America's Team, but they don't call it "steeler nation" for nothin'.:peace2:

I moved to WV in 79 the Steelers were all I heard about. I am a fan, but not a die hard fan like some colleagues at work. I do root for the Pens and Pirates thanks to my siblings and their spouses who are from the Burgh. My passion lies with the Vols, they lose and I am bummed out.

Supporting a team is inherently an irrational, arbitrary activity, so I fully realize that criticizing someone for his irrational, arbitrary choice is faintly ridiculous. Still....it's just impossible on some level to take guys like my Macon friend the other night as seriously as I do "real" fans. He rooted for the best team with the cool uniforms when he was six, and here he is two decades later still rooting for them, in spite of the fact that he grew up an hour away from a city with an (admittedly terrible) NFL team of its own. All because he thought Joe Greene was cool when he was six. It's impossible for me not to feel some contempt towards him for that.

And don't tell me about your Steve Smith jersey, or I'll be calling you a sports bigamist too! :)

I've never been a Steelers fan, but I respect the organization. The Rooneys are great people, the defense always kicks ass and like you said jake, the logo is cool (and original)

There is no doubt that the Jags have a mountain to climb but, that is what makes it so great. We got nothing to lose.

Let me say this, I don't believe we will win but I am excited.:lolabove:
