Steven Pearl

Yes, I'm going to complain. He doesn't deserve to be on the floor at any time that's not garbage time or pre-season ball. Here's my question for ya. If his name was Steven Smith, you think he would still be seeing those two minutes of playing time in an NCAA Tourney game? Do you honestly think that? Of course he wouldn't. And that's the problem. And if our post players can't handle an extra two minutes at the end of the half, then our conditioning is wildy overrated.

1) If Steven was not Bruce's son he would never had the opportunity to walk on at the university of Tennessee

2) would he have received those minutes if he was not a pearl? I'm not sure... it would be according to the opponent...foul situation...and fatigue of players in front of him to make a judgment on that, and I'm not familiar with any of those factors in the specific instances you are referring to.

3) The fact that you say: "if our post players can't handle an extra two minutes at the end of the half, then our conditioning is wildy overrated." Is absolutely absurd and shows little basketball knowledge on your part. As a coach you always take advantage of keeping you players fresh if at all possible. This is what leads to the phrase you so often here in basketball " wearing your opponents down" The matter of players not being able to handle an extra two minutes is completely irrelevant. Would the players collapse from physical exhaustion on the floor? Of course not. Most players on our roster and other Div.1 rosters could play the entire contest. The problem with that is 90 % of those that tried would be alot less productive and aggressive down the stretch.

And on top of all that, he's a HUGE dbag

I would agree normally - but we've had 9-10 guys that can play over the past few years. We haven't been a thin team rotation wise under Bruce (save the first year when I think we only had Asumnu and Jajuan off the bench?)

I would agree the rotation has been pretty deep as of late and the staff could probably find ways to cover the minutes that he is getting without putting him in. For example move a versatile player to a position that is not his primary position for a few possesions..some probably don't understand what I'm saying but you understand. But if the rotation is 10 deep than you are probably looking at your avg. depth being 2 at every spot and that still doesn't leave many options.

Once again I'm not saying that he should or shouldn't get those minutes...I'm just saying that I think this is a situation you see alot with coaches and their sons...in most instances the sons are usually a little more sound than Steven is..but I don't think that he is absolutely over the line in the minutes he gives him. It could be alot worse if he were logging significant minutes and it's just not a big beef with me at this point and won't be until I feel he was the difference in a game that we mark in the L column.

I know he is Bruce's boy but I went to the North Alabama exhibition last night and this kid is the worst athlete in Div. I basketball. I seriously wouldn't even let him play on my YMCA basketball team on account of him being so bad. I just dont understand why Bruce embarreses this kid and lets him at all. Whats worse is I have seen him in the past getting playing time against respectable competition when the game is on the line. I wish Bruce would take the blinders off because this kid gives me a good laugh everytime I see him play.

He's the coaches son and BP wants so badly for him to be embraced like Dane.... not gonna happen Bruce. Fans will let it slide until he costs us a game.

This kid did nothing good in games he played in last year. He either allowed players to score on him, fouled players, turned the ball over, missed a running rainbow shot, etc. He's a liability in every sense of the word. He maybe had 2 decent plays last year...

exactly. we had way than enough players to cover for our posts. I'd much rather have Wooldridge covering two minutes at the 4 then Steven Pearl.

Folks, why are you concerned about two minutes in an exhibition game that we won by 40? Pearl is not going to play unless we are in a blow out game or have no one else to put in the game. Give him his two minutes. He goes to practice and works hard.

I just want to point out that having your son on your team is a huge plus for keeping the inside track on the inner workings of the team. PLUS CBP lets his son be the excuse pamper his players/recruits with the niceties paid for my UT ie: Mansion and Boat!

Can we just call a spade a spade. Those who think the kid should never see the floor either think Steven is a dbag, or hate his father. You can't honestly tell me his less than 1 minute average per game have any of you truly concerned.

I can't believe I got sucked into this thread. I am such a loser.

I love Bruce. And I know nothing about Stephen. And I think he should never see the floor unless it's mop up duty. I know I've groaned on several occasions when he checked into a game.

This guy's attitude and demeanor on the court make me want to punch him. I wish his dad would hit him up side the head.
