Still need to beat Vanderbilt

I have been to most Vandy/Vols games in Nashville and this year is very different from the past. As someone mentioned earlier the stadium sits less than 30,000 until renovations are completed and tickets sold out before they were released to the public. The resale market on SeatGeek, their vendor start at $300+. I lucked out on a memorial day special and got 2 at face value, $140 each before anyone realized this team would be special. I don't know how many tickets were allocated to UT to sell to season ticket holders.

I expect us to go in there and beat Vandy to a pulp. If we don’t, some assistant coaches’ heads need to roll this offseason. The football program has seen massive improvement in the Heupel era but some parts of the team are outperforming others in a big way.
I mean no disrespect, but have you watched either TN or Vandy play this season? If so, what makes you think beating them “to a pulp” is on the table?

Did you see what Carolina did to them? How about Ga State? Vandy is a scrappy team with a dynamic athlete at qb. Notice I said dynamic athlete and not dynamic quarterback. I like Pavia, I think he’s a throwback, but get him in unfavorable down and distance and he often struggles. If we were getting them in the middle of the season, I might be more concerned, but it’s the very last game. We have no reason and no excuse not to be completely dialed in, and their miracle machine has to run out of gas at some point. It likely already has.

Every other upper tier team supposedly has the ability to get pissed off after a loss, flip the switch, and obliterate everything in their path. It’s time we show that capability. Some might say “Well this is a rivalry game, Vandy will be up for this one,” but I’m not sure that this isn’t more of a “see the logo on their helmet and choke” spot for Vandy.

More specifically, I think our defensive line will have something to prove; Rodney Garner will be on those boys hard for the next two weeks. Run fits with our linebackers are a concern, but they seemed to clean that up against UGA (pass coverage they got exposed). From what I’ve seen, most of Vandy’s pass game is quick stuff to the outside, and our corners are really good at setting the edge. On the other side of the ball, they don’t have the athletes to match up on the LOS or in space. Sampson will run for 130+ and Lewis may have a breakout game as well. Expect downfield shots to reappear.

👆 this all day long.
If the Tennessee coaching staff is worth a dime of their salary, they will be scheming Vanderbilt the next 2 weeks, correcting what they need to correct and understanding that this will be a huge game. Commodes have to go to LSU next week, which will be a tall order. Hopefully they’ll get beat up and the Vols will finish the job as they do 99% of the time.

The offense going to look exactly like it has all season. Lot of weaknesses exploited on the D against UGA so I'm curious to see how that unit responds. This is a big game so I hope the upper classmen can play a clean game without all the pre snap penalties. An offsides here, false start there. Situational awareness for the entire game, that includes coaching as well.

People were saying the same thing about Vandy beating us in 2022 and we beat them to a pulp. I get the same vibe on this one.

I think you’re still expecting to see the offense we thought we had rather than the one that exists. We’re gonna see the same limited plays, mistakes and struggles at this point. No matter how much a coach preaches to his team that Vandy is a worthy opponent, it normally doesn’t get through. I don’t know what Beamer does, but he has a way of getting his team highly motivated for certain games. Vandy will treat the Vols as their playoff game and the Vols will go through the motions and find themselves in a 4th quarter dog fight.

I hope they prove me wrong.

I think we roll, my only concern is the lack of pressure we put on Beck. I am not sure what happened to the defensive line other than UGA has some of the top ranked offensive lineman in the country. Fortunately Vandy is not Georgia and as long as we pressure Pavia we should be good.

Captain Obvious comment but depends on which Vandy shows up. The team that beat Alabama and played Texas and Missouri to the wire or the team that lost at Georgia St. and didn't really show up against SC. To be fair the Georgia St. loss now looks more fluke than not and that's not something said about Vandy much.

This game is similar to 2016, that's the only time in my lifetime that Vandy has beaten a better UT team on the field. That game Vandy knocked us out of a sure BCS bowl bid, and a win this year would 100% end any playoff hopes.

Maybe Cafego will send a message from heaven that will inspire our team against Vandy. He still hates Them.

USC is a pretty good football team....Glad we played KY and not them.
We beat UK not long after their upset in Oxford. Hell, I wish we played SC instead of Arkansas since you are doing whataboutisms that are irrelevant. I will play that stupid game for S&Gs. Even better, I would have rather played Texas at home than Arkansas on the road. Texas has the easiest schedule of any of the top echelon of the SEC. How did that happen? Oklahoma has had the toughest schedule, which has been brutal with their youth and injuries

USC is better than Ark and KY....So we just **** the bed against Ark. Just our usual **** the bed against lesser completion once a season. And that is relevant if you are trying to make the playoffs.
