stock market was up today...

Our President Musk and his "stable genius" orange sidekick are doing a bang up job aren't they!

Tariff threat! Tariff! No tariff! Tariff withdrawn! Delayed tariff! New tariff threat!

One might go so far as to suggest Trump's 4D chess isn't chess at all - it's checkers. And he literally doesn't know how to play. Then he starts losing and upends the board and all the checkers into the air in frustration.

Trump is just an agent of chaos. The man has not one ounce of ability to *create* anything. All he can do is criticize, obfuscate, lie and ultimately just **** things up.

And Elon. OOOoooooooohhhh Elon. Used to really respect the guy until he took a hard right turn in politics. Now he is the douchiest of douchebags. Waving a chainsaw while he fires honest, hardworking people. What a piece of ****.

Love the fact that his Tesla firm and stock are tanking like a brick. First he blew up his $44 BILLION purchase of Twitter, now he's blowing up Space-X rockets and Tesla.

Maybe he should spend a bit more time trying to understand where his 14 kids came from. CONSERVATIVE VALUES. What a dick.

Well put about the kids.
Both of these guys were born with silver spoons. They can't relate at all to the common person.

Legitimate question: Given Trump thinks he has Presidential immunity to most anything (thank you Supreme Court members that he installed), could he and his family and friends be profiting off of all of this tariff stupidity? Think about it... if you or I knew in advance - with certainty - that Trump was going to pop a 25% tariff on wood imports from Canada, we could buy call options way out of the money. Then, Trump imposes the tariff, and voila! Lumber prices spike. Our call options go up umpteen-fold.

Then we sell our options. Then Trump reverses his original tariff and thinks revert to "normal".

No harm, no foul right? Yet, Trump and his ilk may very well be profiting off of all this ********.

Trump has no ethics. No morals. And he thinks he's immune to anything. Hell, he seems to be right for once... he literally got out of all of his criminal charges.

So what, if anything, prevents the Orangeman from doing this? Why should we believe it's *not* happening, and we're all being taken for a ride.

And, oh by the way, there has been harm from his tariffs. Long lasting damage. Canadians, for example, have simply decided "**** you, Trump", we'll just BOYCOTT all American products. OOPS! Guessing that wasn't what you expected huh, Donald? And guess who *actually* pays for all of this? You and me. And the stock market is flashing in BRIGHT RED that the Orangeman is leading us straight into a recession.

He's getting more government contracts, so I doubt he cares about Tesla as much. The people that work there will be screwed. They promised pain, unfortunately his voters thought they meant for others, not them.
I feel bad for anyone who had all their retirement tied to the stock market. I have some retirement through my job. I also have some brokerage accounts that I opened....that one is getting the no Vaseline treatment.

Didn't he tell the entire country that during the 18 months he was running for re-election? He's called himself a "Tariff Man" for a decade now. It wasn't exactly shocking.

Considering Trump only cares about Trump, where is this money coming from for him to profit?

He's lost 40% of net worth in the past 45 days. Truth is cratering and would crater more if he sold. It would be public knowledge if he sold. Truth is his only substantial liquid asset.

So, for him to make up the billions hes loat in the past 45 days, he'd have to liquidate most of his real estate portfolio, get full asking, and invest in the beaten down areas.....

Wouldn't you agree that Trump *says* a lot. But most of what he says is pure ********.

For example, do you expect him to invade Panama or Greenland? How about Canada... expect him to make it our 51st state?

of course most of what he says is bs, he is a politician.

the only difference is some people act like his lies are the first, or the worst.

Given that he already slapped on tariffs in his first term, it would seem reasonable to think he'd do it again.

Also pretty sure he never said he would "invade" Panama, Greenland, or Canada.

Why would he? I guarantee you he (or an entity he owns/manages) is murdering this market and buying it on a bloody clearance.
Possibly. I’m scouring the innerwebz daily to see if there are any signs of hedge funds or the the big boys (BX, BLK, GS, JPM) start jumping in. I’m not a smart man, but I do know how to play follow the leader in certain instances.

Ahhhh so you're in the know. Very nice.

Tell me, what is Trump going to next with tariffs? He delayed a portion of the Mexican/Canadian ones (I mean since we already have a trade agreement in place that TRUMP SIGNED IN OFFICE why not?), he's ratcheted up the Chinese ones from 10% to 20%.

Tell us what's next? What exactly will Trump do? Is he going to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian lumber so our housing prices can go up even further? If the Chinese retaliate, is he going to continue to raise their tariffs so we can spend $300 on a pair of shoes?

Is this all potentially *cough* inflationary for us?

Better yet, what is he trying to achieve exactly? (if you say anything about Fentanyl, I gotta bridge to sell you)

Everyone is so quick to run to their corner. That's what keeps me as just an observer of this thread most of the time.

You wrote that as though I am a supporter of the tariffs, even anticipating what a retort might be. I am not. I just said that a guy who implemented tariffs during his first term, and refers to himself as a "Tariff Man," doing tariffs again is hardly a surprise.

Per BBC:

"President-elect Donald Trump has reiterated his desire for the US to acquire Greenland and the Panama Canal, calling both critical to American national security.

Asked if he would rule out using military or economic force in order to take over the autonomous Danish territory or the Canal, he responded: "No, I can't assure you on either of those two."

Trump ramps up threats to gain control of Greenland and Panama Canal

Not ruling something out does not equal "will do it."

Not ruling something out does not equal "will do it."

Dude, if someone asked you, "Would you rule out punching your wife in the face if she doesn't start cooking better food?", would you honestly say, "Well, I can't rule that out."

Come on man. Trump is an embarrassment.

You're a smart, educated person. Surely you see this.

Well, no, I wouldn't say that. Because in that particular case, it wouldn't be true to say that I wouldn't rule it out.

Good grief dude. Back to lurking.
