The Ernie and Bernie Show was incredible. I also watched Bernie play against the Celtics in the old Boston Gardens while I was stationed at Fort Devens, MA. I don't remember which team he played for, but I think it may have been Philly. Anyway, he had a presence on the hardwood!

GBO!!!

I also was able to see the Ernie and Bernie show in Atlanta against UCLA. Too bad we lost that one , but it was an exciting game.

I remember the chants of "Sit Joe Sit" when playing UK and "Sit Hugh Sit" when playing UGA. Michael Brooks from "The Tennessee River!"

The '84 UK game (I believe) when they had Bowie, Perkins, and Kenny "Sky" Walker. I was sitting on the floor at the corner of the baseline. UT won and they announced that I-75 was closed at Jellico Mtn. Just a little more salt for the UK fans.

Concerts: Bon Jovi, Huey Lewis, and a few others. Interesting venue for concerts.

We hung newspapers on the seats and held them in front of our faces when the cats came out, then went crazy when our Vols hit the floor.

Us ROTC guys got hired to do security for a lot of those concerts, plus Kenny Rogers, Cool and the Gang, Pointer Sisters, Lionel Ritchie, The Police...

Also, since the ROTC offices were in Stokely, we had our "karate" classes, drills, boards etc there. I remember ordering pizza during Vols basketball games and meeting the guy in the parking lot. Oh, yeah, ROTC classes...

Went to the John Denver concert there when I was about 11 years old with my dad. We got there late and the guy actually let us in for free. I drove my dad crazy, saying 'Is that marijuana all these people are smoking?' But i got to hear Rocky Mountain High. Gave it new meaning to my young mind. I guess that's where it all went wrong...

I was at that game as well in The Omni in Atlanta. 90% UT fans and the place was packed. Remember the fans saying B-E-A-T. U-C-L-A. UCLA was loaded that year.

I remember seeing UK-UT game in '78. They had little people doing a trapeze act, Bernard King punched a fan on accident, and Ray Mears ripped the head off of a not-as-endangered-back-then Siberian tiger cub. Can't remember if we won or not.

On WNOX yesterday a police officer called in and anonymously reported that someone broke into Stokely, stole $30,000 worth of stuff including the Davy Crockett costume and proceeded to post pictures onto Facebook of their haul.

I am sad to see Stokely AC go. I have many fond memories of the place. I picked up my class schedules and had ROTC classes there. I took girlfriends to see Sting and Tina Turner. I saw Dale Ellis and Charles Barkley play under a fog of cigarette smoke that always hung from the rafters. I would have loved to have seen the Ernie and Bernie show. I made the transition to TB, but it was never the same. Anyone care to share their memories?

ROTC classes
Ranger Room
Running PT
Scabbard and Blade
One rope bridge

I'd like to know who gets the door to the Ranger Room
When I walked thru there at Thanksgiving, it really bummed me out that they were tearing it down

That building holds more memories than all others and is the only one I walk through every time I'm back in Knoxville

My Dad had season tickets in there from the year before it was Stokely until the team moved into TBA. Great seats end court across the aisle from where the UT presidents would sit... Andy Holt, Boling and the like. Andy Holt was one of the friendliest guys I ever saw. He never met a stranger.
Best game I saw was either in 75 or 76 when Tennessee beat Kentucky 103-98. The game was back and forth all the way through. King and Grunfeld and Co. were the most entertaining bunch to watch. Without a doubt, Bernard King is the best basketball player to ever wear TN orange and IMO the best to ever play in the SEC (and yes, I saw Maravich play there too).
Other great memories include a Florida game in the late 60s when they had Neal Walk on their team. The game was won on a buzzer beater shot by Ron Widby from the corner. The place went from pin-drop silence one second to blow-the-roof-off explosion the next. It was one of those rare moments that gets etched into your brain forever.
Oh, and I saw Bob Seger there, since everyone is mentioning concert memories as well.
I will miss Stokely...

Listened to several UT games on the radio from Stokley. Got hooked on Tyrone Beaman, Willie Burton, Dan Federman, Dales Ellis, Michael Brooks, etc.

Did go to two games there. White dropping 50 and The M & M Brothers from UF show. How lucky was that???

At first I didn't like Tony White taking Beaman's minutes but I found out fast why he did.
