Getting up at 4am to shoot jumpers and work on post moves does very little for actual conditioning. I am sure that he does to some sort of conditioning but not like he would be had he been in a program for the whole off-season like the rest of the team. With that said, he is an 18 year old kid with a great work ethic i have no doubts he is doing everything he can with the training staff to get into shape as quickly as possible. I would look for his first games to be quick spurts, here and there and slowly building his minutes up. I dont know if he will win a starting spot by the end of the year, but it may not be a bad thing having him come off the bench as a legitimate scoring option. Either way, i look for him to be an absolute monster next year after he has a full off-season with coach martin and the staff. There is even a strong possibility he could grow another 2" in the off-season seeing as how he is only 18, and wears a size 20 shoe.

Size 20 really? Link?

I know it seems unbelievable for an 18 year old to have a shoe size that big. I believe shaq was "only" like a size 22 or 23, so that is why i say that he definitely has the possibility of growing another couple inches. It would be great for UT and his draft stock if he was able to shoot up to 6' 11" or so.

What are your thoughts on Cuonzo's ability to develop Jarnell? I'll leave that question open....

This could end up being a question that is VERY important and could be a huge factor in Coach Martin's success here at UT. Nobody obviously can really give a good idea what coach will be able to get out of jarnell as he has never had a talent like this before. He wasnt at missouri state long enough to really grade his developmental skills. I guess you could probably look at Purdue as he was credited with much of the success of E'twaun Moore and Jawuan James, both of which turned out to be great players.

I say this could be a very interesting question in the future because if coach proves that he can develop jarnell and put him into the NBA he will attract other top prospects. That was one of the biggest knocks on the previous staff, they brought in some top talent but just never seemed to improve them.

Looking at the pics from today's practice, all I got to say is if hoops doesn't work out for Stokes then maybe he can try out at TE for the football team. Holy Schnikes the guy is huge. Not too many players are going to be pushing him off the block.

Imagine if we still had Tobias.

And if Cuonzo had gotten a hold of and altered Hopson.

Wow.

Who knows what things would be like, but I am honestly pretty happy. Tobias would be great to have but like te previous poster said most likely we wouldn't have gotten stokes. Hopson was probably a lost cause, and I fully believe that he would not have handled martins style well at all. He doesn't want to hustle or play d and he would have found himself on the bench very quickly I believe. I'm also happy for Tobias in how things are working out for him. He entered with a well draft which was smart, and in his first significant time led the team wih 15 points so hopefully that's a sign of things to come for Tobias.

It's not that I doubted him, I just wanted to read more about. Hard to read anything trying to mid the football forum these days.

Your good, it is somewhat unbelievable when you first hear it. Here are 2 different articles where jarnell talks about a few different things including his size 20 shoes!

no problem. i thought that link with a journal entry from his was a really interesting read. he is a very well spoken and intelligent young man. i found it funny he was talking about recruiting and talking about tennessee as if they had no shot and that he was hardly interested it seemed. Great job by the staff to make up ALOT of lost ground.
